A modest proposal (he said Swiftly).

Most national anthems are soupy, hyper-patriotic, and irrationally idealistic.

This gets to the heart of the matter! A refreshing dose of Reality!

I'm sorely tempted to write my senators and congressional representative and suggest that they listen to it carefully, take it to heart, and nominate it as a replacement our national anthem.

(And sing it to myself every morning and evening. . . .)

Once, when I was doing interior trim, I buried a little rhyme under each layer:

One thing I do whene'er I can
Is fuck up sheets of DeciBan.

But if there's none of that to do,
I'll fuck up sheets of wallboard, too.

Another job I'll always tackle
Is fucking up the tape & spackle.

There's lots of that. But if there ain't,
I'm always glad to fuck up paint.

I don't know if this will work for everyone but the way I save a song that someone sees on youtube is easy. Stilly rivers gave a web page so all I ever do is Right click on the web page and save it to my music folder. Works for me and it's easy and cheap and if I at a future date I wants to get rid of it I bring up he folder and right click and delete Louie Roy

There's a very simple four letter word that interfered yesterday with my ability to learn the song between morning and the afternoon/evening session -- W.O.R.K. Gets in the way every time. My job, alas, is not one (as it used to be) where I can even run through a song in my head. My inner iPod has to shut down completely.

It would be nice, though, to learn an abbreviated version of the song and trot it out sometime when no one expects anything of the sort. Like all "novelty" songs, it needs to be sung very sparingly.

KeepVid is brilliant, Stilly! Thank you so much for pointing it out!

It is not a word I use and I truly don't care for today's over-use of it. However, in this song through repetition it loses its cringe-makingness, imo, and becomes biting and pertinent. I think it is very funny.

Did you notice that in some places she actually pronounces it 'fock'? I think she does a great job of putting it across.

Jeri, part of the charm of this song is that the singer is so fastidious in articulating every word clearly. She manages to say "Fuck" without being embarrassed by it. It's funny because she has a folkie kind of look but an academic approach to "fucked up." It covers a lot of territory.

This song is ironic, is overkill, is over the top. It's darned funny. It's applicable to a lot of things today. It's a way to laugh at the "they" who fucked things up. (Even if we are part of the "they".)

If you don't like the F word, then you might not care for this song.

"...a Lyric Rinse.."

Nawww, Leadfingers...sometimes only one word will do. **visions of 137 folkies singing the song in front of The Pentagon, and holding up signs with asterisks at every 3rd word**

I too do not over-use the F word... but the phrase "all f**cked up" has become almost totally integrated into the language.

(ummm...I have a t-shirt which says F*CK CENSORSHIP...but I don't think I have ever worn it in public)

I wanna' do the FLash Mob folkie thing........Where do we go first and second and third............

Start with Congress and then BOTH party headquarters followed by the White House and the Supreme Court. Then how about a trip to Wall Street and every Fortune 500 company starting with the Insurance companies and followed by the Oil companies. Somewhere along the line we need to go to the Shrub's home along with Dick Cheney's (I'm sure he's familiar with the words)...............

Let's get this thing together.....LOL

Many thanks for the thread Maggie!

Geez. Flash MOB. A Flash MOM is something I don't want to see. (Mudelf, could you fix that for me?)

I use a program called keepvid.com that works easily and gives you lots of options. I have an icon in my toolbar so when I have the page I want to save in the highlighted window, I click it and it saves it where I tell it to.

gnu... once you watch it, it is IN your browser's cache. I have just learned where my caches are, and I go there and identify it by size & date and then rename it and move it to where I want.

I have used several of the YouTube rippers and download savers, but several of them were rendered useless as YouTube & other sites kept changing their procedures to make it harder to save.

My system takes a bit of study, but so far its basic principle...that the video must BE in your cache to play... has allowed me to go find it.

(Now, I do NOT use I.E., so I have little idea how to do it in that browser)

I have a list of programs which make the whole process easier..(*in Windows)...I may post it if there is any interest.

A flash mob visits the houses of Congress to sing this song. I love visualizing that!

This link was originally provided by a librarian where I work on her facebook page. And I can only think that my late father, also a librarian, would have done the same thing, had facebook been around when he was alive.

How I do wish somebody could get away with singing that at our church. But so many people would go so far up the wall before they could begin to actually "hear" the song, someone would probably physically stop the performer a few words in. Certainly up to a point it's shock humor, but I think it's far better than just that.
