These are from my personal knowledge (cos we go to them)
Adlington village hall Weds 8-10 Adlington dance club
Near Marple Fri 8-10.20 hawk Green Hoe Down club

Mondays the Audlem session mentioned by Mr Happy is good, welcoming and varied (depending who has floated up the canal)

Unfortunately you will be too early/late for the second Tuesday at Kelsall (Farmers Arms), last Friday at Wrenbury (Dusty Miller), and first thursday in Nantwich (Rifleman), but anyone else who plays tunes or sings songs which could be vaguely called Folk would be welcome.

Sorry, I hadn't noticed that MOM Night on the 18th was already in Mr H's exhaustive list. I think it's worth singling out, though, for the reason stated.

Fifteen years is a long time.

Just outside your terms of reference:

Middlewich Open Mike and Poetry & Pints at The Boar's Head, Middlewich on 18th August.

This event has been running for exactly fifteen years and I'm bowing out as organiser and PA provider on the 18th.

However, Middlewich Open Mike will continue in other hands.

Re the list I put up - it's always best to ring up & check out places prior to travelling, irregardless of area, as almost all folk lists can be out of date.

However, I can give my personal recommendation & guarantee you'll have a spiffing time here:

Mr Happy's Come All Ye,

Every Wednesday

at

The Carlton Tavern,
Hartington St,
Handbridge,
Chester
CH4 7BN 9:00
( 01244 675860)

All welcome!

Free Butties & Mystery Guest every week!

If she's in Macclesfield you won't have far to travel.

The Harrington Arms in Gawsworth will have a session that night as it does every Friday (the 38 bus from the bus station goes at around ten past the hour, or it's a 10-minute drive) and that'll be it's usual eclectic self, although I would expect an English emphasis as the same night all the Irish musicians will be at The Hollins on Black Road in the town the same night for the second Friday Irish session.

Arther Wakefield's club was on in Bollington last I heard and I assume it still is.

I can't make either of these sessions but you'll be sure of a warm welcome from either!

"The last I heard of the Frodsham Sunday night session it had moved up the hill to the Ring o' Bells - lovely pub, great beer even when there's no music on."

Could very well ahve done. The point is it's not at the Queens any more. Which makes me question the up to dateness of the rest of the list.

As Pete points out I was trying to keep an up to date list on The Singaround at The Beech facebook. This worked out mostly ok for Greater Manchester - what ever that is, but The Beech closed and then we were away in France for a month (sorry).

My current plan is to wait until September comes and start again. I think the best bet is for lots of us to choose small areas and keep on top of updates.

The Milneburg Boys used to play jazz at the Fox and Barrel in Tarporley on a Monday, but that finished about 7 or 8 years ago. As far as I know, nothing has happened there since.

Also, as far as I know, the singaround at the Queens in Frodsham was discontinued several years ago. At any rate, the pub was taken over by new management, and the new management got rid of the folk club (same crowd as the singaround), who moved to the Conservative club.

It sounds to me as though quite a lot of this list may be out of date. Best to ring places first.

Mr Happy,
Perhaps you should check before you post! SOme of that stuff is not there anymore!
I'd advise anyone thinking about going to any of those venues to check before leaving home!
I can see at least six closed of the ones I know about
Les was compiling a current list for the area about 6 month ago, since that time a few have already moved!
I think Folk North West have the best current list and from that a phonecall will find the others. Or a visit to one club.
Cheers!
Peter

Lucy, if you're just looking for folk music-ish stuff, I can't see anyone improving on Mr Happy's list but if you're in the market for other cultural (or not so cultural) events, you could try here
