Subject: RE: Will Fly - Unsquare Dance From: Will Fly Date: 22 Jul 10 - 06:06 PM I like to monitor what I'm playing and hear how it's sounding in the mic - hence the (iPod) earbuds. That way I get the sound right first time, and the earbuds are noticeable but not (I hope) too obtrusive, as full earphones would be. :-) |

Subject: RE: Will Fly - Unsquare Dance From: Will Fly Date: 22 Jul 10 - 11:43 AM Dan Dan... people will say we're in love. A little touch of 7/4 time before breakfast is a nice little appetiser. Looking at the back of my copy of Bob Copper's "A Song For every Season" - the back section of which contains Jim Copper's songbook - there are several interesting time signatures. The song "Seamen Bold" is written in 5/4 - wonder what Brubeck would have made of that - and several with shifting time signatures within the tune. All of which probably reflected the unforced and personal way of Jim's family's singing. I've just been looking through my recently-purchased copy of John Kitkpatrick's excellent "Jump At The Sun" tunebook, and goggling over "Bobby Shafto Gone Bonkers", with time signatures going from 4/4 to 9/8 to 7/4 to 3/2 to... madness! |
