Subject: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: Will Fly Date: 23 Jul 10 - 08:10 AM I suspect the previous thread about this may have dropped off and been overlooked. I'm re-posting the pictures of Alex's unknown 12-string, on his behalf, in case anyone has any idea of its origin: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 Pic 5 Pic 6 Pic 7 |
Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: maeve Date: 23 Jul 10 - 08:28 AM The original thread is here. Any new thoughts regarding a maker? |
Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: alex s Date: 23 Jul 10 - 10:31 AM These pics did not appear until the very end of the old thread, so maybe they've been overlooked............ |
Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: DonMeixner Date: 23 Jul 10 - 10:36 AM Looks like a Harmony Sovereign 12 to me. Don |
Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: maeve Date: 23 Jul 10 - 10:50 AM "Subject: RE: Can you identify this guitar? From: alex s - PM Date: 22 Jul 10 - 04:49 AM where's Don Meixner when you need him?!" ________________________________________ LOL Ask and ye shall receive, alec s. |
Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: maeve Date: 23 Jul 10 - 11:09 AM As Don Meixner suggests: Something like this? Harmony Model: H1270 Sovereign 12 String Acoustic |
Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 23 Jul 10 - 11:59 AM Do my eyes deceive me, or are there letters in the adhesive shown in picture 3? Try making a rubbing to see if you can read anything. Yes, it could be an optical illusion on my part. |
Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: Bernard Date: 23 Jul 10 - 01:17 PM Leeniea, we already know that the letters read 'Folk 12' from the previous thread, but nobody posted that here - so no, it's not an optical illusion, your eyesight is fine! |
Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: GUEST,Songbob Date: 23 Jul 10 - 01:22 PM Agreed -- some version of the Harmony (not Stella by Harmony) 12-string. Harmony did jobbing runs for other 'makes,' and this might have been made for Sears (Silvertone) or Montgomery Wards department / mail-order store. The body type is definitely based on Harmony's, and I'd guess it really is. Bob |
Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: Bernard Date: 23 Jul 10 - 01:32 PM The Rory Gallagher link above needs fixing... Yes, it looks remarkably similar, and would be like the one Gordon Giltrap used to record 'Ive's Horizon' circa 1968, engineered by Bill Leader, and released on 'Contemporary Guitar Sampler' (vinyl). He recently re-recorded it on a strange-looking Fylde with fan frets - pictures make it appear to be made out of rubber! For me, though, the sound is a little too clinically in tune, losing some of the jangly character and energy of the older Harmony 12-string. A bit like playing organ pieces on an electronic instead of pipes, I suppose... |
Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: maeve Date: 23 Jul 10 - 02:23 PM Thanks for fixing my Roy Gallagher link, Bernard. |

Subject: RE: Anyone identify this guitar yet? From: alex s Date: 26 Sep 11 - 07:52 AM Yes, it's an unbranded Harmony Sovereign with a "Folk 12" logo |
