Subject: RE: lost cookie ? From: Joe Offer Date: 26 Jul 10 - 06:26 PM I've been having lost cookie problems lately, too; and I rarely had them before. Max says it's our computers, not Mudcat - and that seems logical. However, why is it happening more now than it did Back in the day? -Joe- |
Subject: RE: lost cookie ? From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Jul 10 - 08:17 PM Here's an e-mail I got today:
Is there something going on with Mudcat cookies??? Mine now disappears daily--or even several times daily. This is new, although there's nothing at all that I've changed on my computer or its settings. Used to be that my cookie NEVER disappeared. Now it's as ephemeral as a melting snowflake. Can you shed any light? Or maybe even fix the problem for me? I'm in the mood for a kryptonite cookie! Thanks! I honestly don't know the solution. Mine crumbles on my laptop if I haven't used it for a while, but seems relatively stable on my desktop. Can somebody shed some light on this? Is is my computer that's crumbling cookies, or is it Mudcat? How can we fix this? -Joe- |
Subject: RE: tech: Mystery of the Crumbling Cookie From: GUEST,Ebbie Date: 29 Jul 10 - 09:55 PM Well, durn. I never had this problem before- I suspect it's a different one from the one you are reporting, though. I went into Tools, Options, Clear History, Exceptions (for half a dozen sites including the Cat). Went back to the Cat, found I wasn't logged in. Gave it my information, it said I was logged in, went back to the Cat, was not logged in, checked around, logged in again, it said I was logged in at my Gmail account (which has a different password), not my Yahoo account which I have always used on the Cat. Now I am not logged in at all. Anybody follow this? |

Subject: RE: tech: Mystery of the Crumbling Cookie From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 29 Jul 10 - 10:19 PM The UK influence has permenantly altered the lay of all future Mudcat (aka MAXWELL'S Silver Hammer) environs.
Henceforth, all "cookies" shall be referred to as "biscutts." and for the golden-circle-of-twenty-clones ...the re-catorgized-term is "crumpets."
Sincerely,
Re-Set your browser accordingly....puffing poofters permited .... pulsating possum paws prohibited....giggling gatitas genuinely googled. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Mystery of the Crumbling Cookie From: Will Fly Date: 30 Jul 10 - 03:54 AM I wonder if software updates - such as pop up automatically on modern computers and demand to be installed - occasionally drop a cookie from the tray? I've only ever lost the Mudcat cookie once - last week, as it happened - and am just wondering whether any of the software updates that took place (can't remember what the danged things were now) had this effect. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mystery of the Crumbling Cookie From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 30 Jul 10 - 04:16 AM bloody updates - I normally find that I've lost my auto logins (if that's what they're called) - I type S & my name is automatically filled in, on some of them my password also appears as a line of *s, on others I have to type it, but after one of those updates I have to type the lot. One of 'em did even more evil - it stole my Aus-English dictionary! My Personal Help Desk sent one that works on Mac & Mozilla & I've had trouble downloading it - & he's far too busy to help me (fooey, what's the point of having a Personal Help Desk if I don't get personal help when I WANT it!) sandra (suffering under a US-English spellcheck) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Mystery of the Crumbling Cookie From: Ebbie Date: 30 Jul 10 - 04:29 PM My problem turned out to be an unrelated matter. I dunnit meself but didn't know how to reverse it. Eventually I got it back after following directions in a pm from Maeve. Neat people here, you know. |
