The Newport Folk Festival is this weekend, July 30-August 1. I always skip the Friday night concert. I know this festival is expensive. I'm glad to see a mix a familiar performers and some who will be new to me. I am particularly glad that at least two groups with RI connections are included. Are any other Mudcatters going? Oops, make that at least 3 groups with RI connections. Local performers have often been overlooked in the past.

Not much under the 1954 definition (tho there is an hour and 14 minutes of Doc Watson and Dave Holt), but sure to be something there for everyone...

I thought the festival was very good. Thank you for posting. I'm fairly new to Mudcat and wondered if my posting was out of place, Glad one person (you) responded. Tao and Low Anthem are favorites of mine, and better-known John Prine, Levon Helm, and of course Richie Havens are, too. Swell Season and Sarah Jarosz were new, delightful surprises. Thanks to NPR, I hope to listen to performers I couldn't hear live. Also, I have a problem with performances that are so loud that my heartbeat changes, On NPR, I can adjust the volume. I love it when performers share the stage.

Thank you, DWR. I didn't hear Sam Bush but will stream him. Brandi was good but over-amplified for me. Sometimes I think I'm the only member of my generation who hasn't blown out her ears. (This is a problem for me in exercise classes, too.) I'll listen to Brandi on NPR where I will be able to control the volume.
