Subject: Thought for the Day (August 18) From: Peter T. Date: 18 Aug 99 - 10:05 AM Rolling Stone interview with Sam Phillips (owner of Sun Records, discoverer of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, etc.): What were you trying to achieve when you started working with Elvis? You have to keep in mind Elvis Presly probably innately was the most introverted person who ever came into my studio. He didn't play with bands. He didn't go to this little club and pick and grin. All he did was set with his guitar on the side of his bed at home. I don't think he even played on his front porch. So I had to try and establish a direction for him. |
