I saw an item on the Symphony for Yorkshire on BBC TV1 this morning and was very impressed. Although this particular clip doesn't show it, there seems to be a fair bit of traditional music incorporated, and a number of folk musicians. Anyone we know ... ?

Local to Hull "The Hut People" and "Circus Envy" are performing in it.

"A Symphony for Yorkshire is a new and unique piece of music commissioned by the BBC which will be broadcast on Yorkshire Day, Sunday 1st August.

The four movements have been composed by Benjamin Till and the lyrics were written by Doreen Brigham, a 98-year-old great-grandmother from Harrogate.

The complete Symphony will be broadcast on BBC Radio Sheffield on Sunday August 1 with build-up from 11 am. BBC Look North broadcasts one of the four movements from the symphony each night from Monday 2 to Thursday 5 August.

The full symphony will also be available online from 11:15 am on August 1."

Are you sure?

All the info I have seen says that the Symphony is 15 mins long. The video in the link I provided was 19 mins. It also has the full credits at the end. It is the complete symphony as far as I can see.

I was a tad disappointed to such a large Latin component in the section shown. I enjoy Latin music, and thought that particular contribution worked well... but it's hardly representative of Yorkshire music.

Just watched 2nd movement on Look North. It included a musical saw, played under the Humber Bridge.
Movement 3 on tomorrow at about the same time (ca 6.50)

The complete video of all four movements is still up on the link provided earlier, but much of it is incredibly badly synched - unless there's a fault with iPlayer.

It was great to be apart of it all. Its amazing what a variety of music there is in Yorkshire. Hopefully the BBC will release it on DVD.
