Came across this thread just now, while hunting for something...
I've no idea how The Pride of Pimlico got inserted into this thread - in fact, I shudder to think!

I've done this using the words in the DT which I don't think are quite right.

(G)I've travelled many counties in Ireland
but there's still one I'm longing to (D7)see
it has (Am)been a part of my (D7)homeland
and it brings back fond memories to (G)me
where I wandered alone in my childhood
reviewing the sights I once (D7)seen
as I (Am)walked through the parks and the (D7)forests
'round the beautiful county of (G)Meath.
(D7)
cho: Oh, (G)beautiful Meath, you've got all that I need,
your rivers they flow with (D7)delight
your (Am)fields are so green, there's (D7)plains to be seen
and your towns are so gay and so (G)bright (D7)
fishing (G)down on the Boyne, I remember the time
you would think it was all just a (D7)dream
and wher(Am)ever you roam, there's (D7)no place like home
and the beautiful county of (G)Meath.

Subject: Lyr Add: PRIDE OF PIMLICO (Arthur Griffith)
From: Martin Ryan
Date: 14 Apr 97 - 07:01 AM

This is the song as given in O'Lochlinn's "More Irish Street Ballads":

PRIDE OF PIMLICO

Come all ye broken hearted ones and listen to my lay
About a lovely damsel, as fair as any may,
Who's caused much tears and sorrow and grief and heartfelt woe.
It's Kitty Flynn I'm speaking of, the Pride of Pimlico.

It's just about a month ago unto this place she came,
And set our hearts a-blazing up in love's undying flame,
And made of every other lass about the place a foe,
Because she took their sweethearts, did the Pride of Pimlico.

Poor Paddy Burke the tailor now can't do a stroke of work,
Nor Billy Shee the handyman, nor steady Jack McGurk;
And if you ax the reason, all they'll answer you is: "O
'Tis all because of Kitty Quinn, the Pride of Pimlico."

Old Jimmy Kane the miser that no one could get round,
And young Tom Ray who owns a forge and near a hundred pound,
And Matt McCann whose father keeps the Irish Waxwork Show
Are raving night and day about the Price of Pimlico.

It's time the polis saw to it. It soon will be too late,
An divil a man in all the Coombe will have a solid pate,
Or soon beyond in Riley's, a sight of awful woe
You'll see ten thousand victims of the Pride of Pimlico!

Written by Arthur Griffith - the man who negotiated the Anglo-Irish Treaty in 1920/1.

Anoather good song for bodhran accompaniment is "The Hackler from Grouse Hall"

Subject: Lyr Add: BEAUTIFUL MEATH (Nelson)
From: Bobby O'Brien
Date: 21 Apr 97 - 07:25 AM

"Beautiful Meath" (Nelson) Green Grass Music recorded by Mary Duff in 1987 (her debut single) and also appearing on the album "Thoughts of Ireland" (1992) Ritz Records CD# RCD519/Cassette # RC519

BEAUTIFUL MEATH
(Nelson)

I've travelled many counties in Ireland
But there's still one I'm longing to see.
It has been a part of my homeland
And it brings back fond memories to me,
Where I wandered alone in my childhood
Reviewing the sights I once seen,
As I walked through the parks and the forests
'Round the beautiful county of Meath.

CHORUS: Oh, beautiful Meath, you've got all that I need.
Your rivers they flow with delight.
Your fields are so green, there's plains to be seen,
And your towns are so gay and so bright.
Fishing down on the Boyne, I remember the time
You would think it was all just a dream;
And wherever you roam, there's no place like home
And the beautiful county of Meath.

I've seen its beautiful castles,
And its history I've learned so well.
I've read of the high kings of Tara
And the wonderful book of Kells.
Where the slain still remember St. Patrick,
He lit a fire for the people to see,
'Ere he brought love and kindness to Ireland
And the beautiful county of Meath. (REPEAT CHORUS TWICE)

And wherever you roam, there's no place like home,
And the beautiful county of Meath.
