Subject: RE: Fighting Tyranny With Music From: GUEST,bankley Date: 17 Aug 10 - 05:24 PM I'm all for that... apparently they had Roger Waters approval to re-interpret the song.... I don't think they'll be going to Tehran anytime soon to play it. |

Must say though, if I did something like that and had relatives back in Iran, I'd not only withhold my surname but want to have my face blurred for broadcast, maybe want a new name for the band. Do they really think family will be safe if the governing regime takes a notion to locate relatives and make them suffer? I can't figure whether they are naive or gutsy. In any case, to sing out against tyranny is excellent, all the more so that they do so despite the chance of harm to themselves and their relatives. In a time when so many things are done by both politicians and voters, which leave me feeling embarrassed to be Canadian, these guys make me very proud! |
Subject: RE: Fighting Tyranny With Music From: Neil D Date: 17 Aug 10 - 01:27 PM Very cool. Reminds me of the thread about the PBS special about how the Beatles music brought down the USSR. Never underestimate the power of music, even when up against a seemingly well-entrenched oppressive regime. |
