Subject: RE: Bonnie Koloc discography From: GUEST,Lin Date: 10 May 23 - 08:54 PM Can someone who is very familiar with all of Bonnie's albums, please recommend which ones are the most acoustic folky ones? I know from reading posts that some of Bonnie's albums might be kind of a cross over into more pop/rock songs but if there are any of her albums are for the most part, very folky, please post a list of which ones they are and year of release. Thank you. |

Subject: RE: Bonnie Koloc discography From: Thomas Stern Date: 28 Mar 21 - 07:40 PM I first heard Bonnie Koloc late 1970's at a coffee house in Chicago - don't remember the name, but it was "downtown" near a theatre, and some blocks from the famous Rose Records store. Narrow hall with brick wall back of stage, a raised seating section to left. The Epic album WILD AND RECLUSE was very moving - a masterpiece in my estimation. And of course lovely voice and songs on her many albums. Have not seen anything about her for many years, until recently noticed a couple of CDs: 2012 Rediscovered 2017 Seems Like Yesterday mixed reviews on Amazon, and exorbitant price at Amazon. It is listed on her website bonniekoloc.com, no price given but contact info available. Seems in addition to her work as an artist / printmaker, she has been performing now curtailed by the COVID shutdown. Cheers, Thomas. |
Subject: RE: Bonnie Koloc discography From: GUEST Date: 19 Mar 21 - 07:00 PM I have a commercial/pre-recorded 7" 'quadraphonic' reel tape released on the Ovation Records label by Bonnie Koloc; 'You're Gonna Love Yourself in the Morning' (1974). We will be auctioning it on eBay soon in case you might be interested. It's not a bad album, she has a beautiful voice. Kerry Brown DSDtape https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moUYJm4mIxE |
Subject: RE: Bonnie Koloc discography From: frogprince Date: 02 Oct 12 - 10:52 PM I first saw Bonnie in concert at a college in Chicago, I think in 1970, and tried to catch her live when I could for several years after that. I bought at least one vinyl album, I think two. I loved her live, and frankly have never been so disappointed in albums that I expected to enjoy. My roommate at the time just shook his head and said they sounded like third-rate rock & roll. |

Subject: RE: Bonnie Koloc discography From: DADGBE Date: 15 Aug 10 - 04:44 PM I was Bonnie Kolok's first accompanist. We were top billed at the late, lamented Chicago club, 'The Earl of Old Town' for a total of about 16 weeks. We also played at the 'Club Improv' in New York City. We played Stevie Goodman's "Song for David' on WFMT, Chicago public radio. Stevie and I created the guitar accompaniment during time spent sitting on his hospital bed at the Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Institute. It was the first broadcast of any of his songs. Unfortunately, I have no recordings left from that period. My extensive vinyl collection was lost in a flood. Ray Frank |

Subject: Bonnie Koloc discography From: Thomas Stern Date: 14 Aug 10 - 06:10 PM I am compiling a discography of BONNIE KOLOC, and came across some interesting tracks available on a series of DVD's which may have escaped the attention of those interested. She is backed by a small "jazz" combo. The songs appear on a series of DVDs issued by MVD (in the US) and QUANTUM LEAP in the UK titled CLASSIC RHYTHM & BLUES. There are FOUR tracks, spread over 3 DVDs - I've heard only 3 of them. Those interested are probably aware of her new CD "Beginnings", recorded in 1969, issued on her own label. I'd be interested in others appraisal of the album. My initial reaction is the material for the most part does not suit her. The voice, and her emotional communication skills are much in evidence.... Finally - if anyone knows of any Bonnie Koloc material hidden away in radio transcriptions, film, or obscure compilations (NOT the Chicago scene readily available things such as the Steve Goodman tribute etc), please let me know. Thanks, Thomas. |
