I am compiling a discography of BONNIE KOLOC,
and came across some interesting tracks available
on a series of DVD's which may have escaped the attention
of those interested. She is backed by a small "jazz" combo.
The songs appear on a series of DVDs issued by MVD (in the US)
are FOUR tracks, spread over 3 DVDs - I've heard only 3 of them.

Those interested are probably aware of her new CD "Beginnings",
recorded in 1969, issued on her own label. I'd be interested in
others appraisal of the album. My initial reaction is the material
for the most part does not suit her. The voice, and her emotional communication skills are much in evidence....

Finally - if anyone knows of any Bonnie Koloc material hidden away
in radio transcriptions, film, or obscure compilations (NOT the Chicago scene readily available things such as the Steve Goodman tribute etc), please let me know.

Thanks, Thomas.

I ordered Bonnie Koloc's Beginnings after reading Mike Regenstreif's review and I love it.

I was Bonnie Kolok's first accompanist. We were top billed at the late, lamented Chicago club, 'The Earl of Old Town' for a total of about 16 weeks. We also played at the 'Club Improv' in New York City.

We played Stevie Goodman's "Song for David' on WFMT, Chicago public radio. Stevie and I created the guitar accompaniment during time spent sitting on his hospital bed at the Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Institute. It was the first broadcast of any of his songs.

Unfortunately, I have no recordings left from that period. My extensive vinyl collection was lost in a flood.

I first saw Bonnie in concert at a college in Chicago, I think in 1970, and tried to catch her live when I could for several years after that. I bought at least one vinyl album, I think two. I loved her live, and frankly have never been so disappointed in albums that I expected to enjoy. My roommate at the time just shook his head and said they sounded like third-rate rock & roll.
