Has anyone any personal experiences or good links to projects on the songs and singing of migrant workers or immigrants singers and musicians in Britain and Ireland . I know travellers and gypsies have been quite well recorded or documented for many years.

When I was boy in Manchester ( born 1939) I still heard people in our family and friends network occasionaly singing songs in Irish and Scottish Gaelic and Welsh and Yiddish as well as in Spanish from Republican refugees from Franco, from Africans and West Indians who settled in the area and they were warmly welcomed in our (pretty Leftie) world.

Are we still as receptive, or have communities become more isolated.

Complex subject I reckon but I am sincerely keen to hear from folks.
