Hi all,

Following last night's great one-off session at the Royal Oak (20 musicians and some really nice music) the landlord is persuaded that a regular session would indeed be a Good Thing. So were are going fortnightly on Wednesdays, with yesterday counting as the first.

That means the next English Music session at the Royal Oak, Lower Bristol Road, Bath BA2 3BW will be on 1st September starting at 8.30 pm.

Cheers,

Chris

Good luck with it Chris. The problem is always that landlords expect a massive boost to sales, and if it doesn't happen they go cold on the idea of real reel music. So drink up thee zider.

I know that, only too well, from having run the Bradford on Avon session for the last 5 years (still going very nicely, BTW, the new session is in no way a replacement for that one). However this is a *very* session-friendly pub. On the alternate Wednesdays to ours there is an Irish session that has been running for years and they have French music sessions and other stuff, as well as live music acts. The pub views itself as a live music venue and people coming expecting to hear live music of some kind. The reception for the three sessions we've had there so far has been excellent. Finally, my partner is a music student at Bath Spa University and their halls of residence are about 200 yards down the road. We really want to drum up some interest there - part of the reason for the project.

Nothing lasts forever, but I think we have as good a chance of getting this going as may be. In Bath we can call on local musicians as well as those of Bristol and Bradford on Avon. I think there's been a need for an English session in Bath for years.

Here's hoping!

Chris

PS the pub is a true free house with an excellent, ever changing choice of beers at remarkably low prices for Bath. It's been CAMRA's champion pub in the area for the last three years straight off. A really, really nice pub!

Bounce, since we're just a couple of days off now.

Hi Chris
It will be on cresby.com tonight.

FWIW it alternates weekly with the Irish session at the same venue/night

so if you forget the week you will still have a folkie session.
