I played down the caves with my skiffle group from 1956 to 1958/9.
we used to get paid a few pounds at the entrance on the way out.
Great nights of Jazz Bands in the main stage. and a few of us skiffle groups scattered around the caves. We would just set up anywhere we fancied. , and the crowds used to come around and listen and dance to us.

When I was at college in South-East London in the early to mid 1960s the traditional jazz nights there were a favourite haunt of mine.

Some of you might be interested in this recent British low budget scary movie..

DVD £2.77

I'll say no more to avoid spoilers,
except.....

Switch the lights off, watch in a pitch black dark room, and listen through good quality headphones...

Unless you're one of those lucky buggers with expensive Hi Fi surround-sound systems...

I have a memory of sitting up against a wall on an all-night gig with a girl who sang me Sean South, the first time I'd ever heard it. That would probably have been in 1957' a few months after Sean was killed.

We played the caves 1956-57. Ralph Peters ran the South London Jazz Clubs. We were paid £3.10 shillings for a saturday night. If any one is interested I have all dates and records.

Anyone remember being enjoined in an echoing voice (like in a cave, see) to "Rave at The Chislehurst Caves" by someone at the pirate station 'Wonderful' Radio London?

I went to the caves once, in the mid 1960's - all night gig. Ten bands playing in different parts of the caves, different genres. From rock to steel bands, I seem to remember.

Alas! I only went down to Chislehurst for LARP, so I can't make any serious contribution on the music side. The LARP side was fun though, at least briefly.

During, say, 1964 to 66 we booked Paul Simon and "Sandy & Jeannie" at the caves. Folks took their own cushions for a more comfortable evening.

I used to go there. Remember they had the beer in plastic cups. The bottom fell out of mine. Cannot recall who I was watching at the time.

This is a place south east of London
http://www.chislehurstcaves.co.uk/
http://www.chislehurst-caves.co.uk/
and from this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chislehurst_Caves

In the 1960s, the caves were used as a music venue. David Bowie, Status Quo, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd all performed there.[1] In October 1974 a lavish media party was held there to celebrate the launch of new UK record company Swan Song Records by the band Led Zeppelin.

has anyone experienced the haunted aspects of this place?

The biggest Trio in the World did the caves for a few years. We were booked by walkers of a special route and they all turned up in weird costumes, Jane Petto did the calling for us one year.
Very interesting venue
Al

When I went to the caves (1956-59) it was mostly late night trad jazz events, and no invite seemed to be needed.

I did go to gigs in the early sixties, '63 to '64. Damned if I can remember who I saw though. Quite a lot of trad jazz and the suchlike seems to come to mind.

i worked down Chislehurst Caves for over 20 years prior to what i do for a living now.
I saw the later part of the gig years down the caves has a member of staff on the door during events.
I am opening this thread in the hope that fellow Mudcat members attended not necessarily the later gigs where I was on the door but prior gigs . In gereral I am talking about invite only events not birthday parties private family function.?

'Did any one out there have a invite to a gig down the Caves.
Kindest regards Pierre
