A big thank you to all mudcatters for there help in helping me lose weight. When I lost my job last september I didn't know what I was going to do, at home 24 hours a day, not a driver living miles from anywhere with limited transport I started eating things i shouldn't & sitting around when I was used to being on my feet. Well i decided to tidy the house & put my music in order, then I discovered mutcat & popped a Quiz on which many of you partisipated in. This got me looking & listening to more & dancing along to new artists, this in turn ment i stopped eating the things I shouldn't & so have lost 6lbs in one month. Would Like to lose more so will continue dancing & have just been to the Rhythm Festival with a friend & danced for hours to great material. So once again thank you mudcat.
I'm going to move this to the non-music section since its connection with music is only ancillary.
    -Joe Offer-

Though I am very glad for your weight loss - lost a few myself recently - I am a bit concerned about the message you are sending out. It goes right to the root of "What is folk music?" Next you'll be bragging about your cleanshaven chin and uncluttered living room.
This is bad. Very bad.

Well that's a better effect than the sit-all-day-and-night-at-the-computer-compulsively-reading-Mudcat-and-dropping-crumbs-in-the-keyboard-and-occasionally-spraying-it-with-coffee effect that is often mentioned.

Spraying the keyboard with Wine or Beer is just as bad - AND a Worse Waste !

Surprised no one mentioned how much we've been enjoying the quizzes.
(I'm taking the liberty of speaking for others here as well as myself, but from the amount and kind of responses the quizzes got, I'd say a lot of people really got into them.)

I've heard dancing burns something like 300 calories an hour, by the way. Congrats on making yourself healthier, and here's to more of the same!

Congratulations, GuestIDK, shaking one's booty does seem to help, doesn't it?:-)

You may want to join us on the decluttering/accountability threads, there's a new one each month. Several of us are working on exercising more and losing weight.

Being mostly in a wheelchair, unable to drive now, or exercise meaningfully, eating is a big pleasure. Any ideas for weight loss? At 260 lbs. I'm not happy with the siuation.

One really easy thing, Art, is to use smaller plates. You'll be amazed how much less you'll eat. If you usually use a dinner plate, use a luncheon plate. And, of course, limit yourself to one plate per meal. If you call it a "tapa" (small plate) in Spanish, it may seem exotic and more satisfying. Also try to eat meals at regular times and as a meal - not snacking from the refrigerator.
And it you're typing stories to us, you won't be eating, so....tell us more stories. We love them (and we love you).

Thank you everyone, the support helps noend & Art, they say drinking a glass of water before a meal helps suppress the hunger as well as Joe's suggestions from above about smaller plates.
Using the mudcat forum is a positive time consumer, real does stop you eating. Try my new quiz which I am posting shortly & see if you can pass some time unraveling the anagrams.

Art, I had the same thing going on before surgery and weighed about the same. I did find an exercise I could manage while sitting. If you are able to lift your arms a bit and pat down your arms with your hands and even pat down your legs, you might benefit from a qi gong tape for seniors by Lee Holden at THIS SITE. You only do what you can, comfortably, and he has his mom in a chair to demonstrate doing it that way. It may not do a lot for weight loss, on its own, but it will help with circulation, breathing, and feeling a bit of a mental uplift, from my experience.

Joe is right about the smaller dishes...it really helps. It's best to have 6-7 little meals throughout the day and evening, imo, and according to some experts. Healthier in-betweens help, too. Also, watch the sodium. Yee-gawds, there is SO much in anything we don't prepare from scratch. Just a tuna sandwich runs over 900mgs, typically, and can cause water retention, adding to weight. There is one breakfast cereal I have found with no sodium or fat: puffed wheat! A little bit of almond milk and brown sugar with a cup of that makes a healthy snack/small meal. Cream cheese has less sodium than other cheeses and is good on fresh celery. I thought I was doing well using it on a mini-bagel, until I realised the bagel had 340ms of sodium.

Hope this helps, some. Joe is also spot on when he says we love you...we DO!

kat
