From time to time products are recalled because of some fault - brakes on cars, fuses in electrical goods and so on. Perhaps some songs should be recalled, put right and released. Any suggestions?

Some should just be recalled, full stop.

I suppose it could happen, but only if the song came with a full manufacturer's guarantee. If you could identify, say, faulty workmanship or defective parts, or anything that was a threat to the health and safety of the public, you could try to persuade the composer to recall and reissue the song. Now that I think of it like that, there are a lot of songs that deserve to be recalled and, in some cases, not reissued at all.

Or possibly you could invoke the Trade Descriptions At (We're in the UK here; the US may have different suggestions). Is the song of merchantable quailty and fit for purpose? If not, you could send it back and demand a refund. It's also supposed to last for a reasonable amount of time, but in the case of a bad song, that might be the last thing you want it to do, so the Act isn't much help here.

If the composer is Trad or Anon, it gets more tricky - I think you'd have to undertake the repairs yourself.
