Subject: This is my New Music! From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 29 Aug 10 - 02:15 PM What NEW music are you listening to? I'm rubbish at seeking out new music, so I love other people flagging up new music for me. I don't care if it's (official) 'old' music, just curios about what music is new to you now.. |
Subject: RE: New Music! From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 29 Aug 10 - 02:35 PM Having got a flyer in my mail a couple of months ago, right now I'm checking what Andre Rieu (and all the hype!) is about, on Sky Arts 2. |

Subject: RE: New Music! From: Mavis Enderby Date: 29 Aug 10 - 04:10 PM I hope this isn't hijacking the thread, but info on good radio (&TV?) programs would be useful too. I'm also rubbish at seeking out new music, mainly because the radio DJs inane chatter tends to put me off (at least mainstream UK ones do) Cheers Pete. |

Subject: RE: New Music! From: Will Fly Date: 30 Aug 10 - 06:29 AM If you can get Spotify - probably still Europe only at the moment - try doing what I do. I do a search for a song or tune title, then see what comes up on the list. I'll try various versions then, if one is in to my taste, will click on the album(s) to see what else the performers have done. Then play a tune on the album I'm unfamiliar with - then do a search on that tune and see who else has recorded it - and so on. Recommendations by other 'Catters are often followed up. It was Suibne Astray who reminded me of the pleasures of the viol as played by Jordi Savall ("Tous Les Matins Du Monde"). Another great source of new tunes is sessions. I always hear something new and interesting. Last night, I was reminded of "Madame Bonaparte", which I hadn't heard played for years. I have this in the "Northumbrian Piper's Tune Book Vol. 1", and will not get it out to refresh the fingers. Then I'll go through the pages and see what else is good. I've also just bought John Kirkpatrick's "Jump At The Sun" tunebook - what a great source of fun from the Diamond Squeezer! Good stuff on Radio 3 late night as well... But I miss Charlie Gillett and John Peel and Mike Raven and Alexis Korner, etc. - the last DJs. |
