Excellent. I'm thinking of the voice being In John White, grandfather to Virginia Dare, the first English child born in the New World, who left the colony to return to England for supplies. He expected to return to Roanoke Island within three months but was delayed until 1590, by when all the colonists had disappeared. Thanks for the suggestions, exactly the kind of info I needed.

Screwed up there. Cornyshe is way too early.

You want Thomas Ravenscroft. There are lots of his songs on the web (Greg Lindahl's site is good) and we know they were popular at the right time.

Packington's Pound, Sellenger's Round (maybe a bit too cheerful), Oh, Willow, Willow, Willow (aka the sick tune).

Playford may not have published anything until 1651, but many of the tunes in the first edition of the English Dancing Master date back to the late 16th cent.

Playford didn't publish anything until 1651, by which time Roanoke was long gone.

Try some of the songs of William Cornyshe.

Since I can't find a traditional sounding song about Roanoke Lost Colony of NC, I've decided to write one using a popular tune fro the time period. Any help appreciated.
