From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 01 Sep 10 - 07:11 PM Sadly I have found that the cost of postage - and Air is nearly twice that of Surface which has to be posted by the end of October to get overseas in time - now exceeds the coast of a small box of goodies - and it can add up to a considerable portion of a weeks fixed income. I will will miss the delights of getting surprised by real Maple Syrup, etc, etc, etc, but I'll be in for the 'Just a Card' one if it's on. |

There are people out there who fall into the 'not nice' category sadly.... Also if someone wants to send a particular person a card, rather than just 'a few random names' then perhaps they could ask fo that one if they have joined up? I don't want to start a Mudcat "I sent more cards than you did" game ... :-) |

Liz the Squeak coordinates the chaos by starting the thread & collecting the names & addresses of those who want to participate. She also selects our Santees & tells us who they are. Participants also post a list of likes/dislikes/wants/needs etc so we have an idea of what to get for our Santee. We spend something like 20 dollars or pounds in our currency, or make something. We log out & post clues etc under a santa name. And a few remarks on shipping that might help, at least for US shippers. The post office has priority flat rate boxes that are for domestic and international use. The small flat rate box and the two medium sized boxes (one is flatter than the other) can be packed pretty tightly with goodies and they go fairly quickly. I've been shipping eBay sales in them for the last couple of years and it usually takes a week or so, rarely longer, to get there. You can get those boxes free at the post office, you don't have to order them in batches of 25 (and that order takes a couple of weeks to arrive anyway). I'll work out the list tomorrow evening and send them by PM to each of you. If we have stragglers, then it's best if they post directly to me and not to this list, or they'll know who each other are. Because stragglers may get matched up (though I have a couple of volunteers for emergency Santas, thank you everybody!) This is taking shape. As Liz says, I'm doing this, but I'm not responsible for the outcome - let's hope no catastrophes happen to Santas before they get their boxes mailed!
