The Fisherman's Arms, The Headland, Hartlepool is having an afternoon session this coming Saturday - 12noon 'till 5.00pm.
After this week it will be held every two weeks.
So that's - 27th Sep and 11th & 25th Oct.

In the city of Durham area is,of course, Durham City Folk Club which meets each Thursday in the Tap and Spile at Framwellgate Moor at around 8.30

And of course there is the Bridge in Newcastle on a Monday night, 52 years old this year. Plus the Monkey in the Monkseaton Arms on a Sunday night, as well as the Berkeley Tavern in Whitley Bay on a Wednesday night. Enjoy

There is a great night at the Cosmopolitan in Hartlepool every fortnight - I've only been a couple of nights as I don't get up there too often but they were both excellent - not sure when next one is but Sean of the Young'uns may see this thread and let you know

I hope they caught the Durham Streets Of Folk - free outdoor concerts all over Durham City, on Sunday just gone. I'd have been there, but I was at Shrewsbury Folk Festival. The annual Brass festival often has a folky element, too - I've caught Bellowhead and La Bottine Souriante as part of it in previous years.

The Davy Lamp at Washington Arts Centre on a Saturday usually has a strong line-up.

But it's also worth checking the Gala Theatre in Durham. There's often a heavy folk element to its programme. I see Sam Carter's there on September 19, Ralph McTell on November 4, Belinda O'Hooley and Heidi Tidow on November 6, Drever McCusker Woomble on November 11, and John Kirkpatrick on November 27.

In fact you could probably find somewhere to go every night of the week - boo hoo, not like in East Yorkshire, well at least the part I live in.

Birtley Folk Club Wednesday nights, 8.30 in the Catholic Club at Birtley. Sing around format most weeks, guests about once a month. South Shields folk club Sundays, 8.15 in the Rugby Club, Westoe, South Shields. As mentioned before Folk Roundabout is an excellent guide to what's on in the area, including dance clubs, sessions and folk clubs.

North of Durham, just South of Newcastle, Left of Gateshead is Blaydon where http://www.tynefolk.co.uk/
happens on Thursday nights. Excellent quality regular singers.

Try Durham Folk Club but really the Folk Roundabout magazine is the best for info on clubs and sessions in the area. Trevor Lister is the editor and Morley Man on Mudcats does sell them and I'm sure would send them one.

I had 2 friends from Durham who came down to see me while I was at Whitby Festival. They weren't folkies then but were so knocked out by it all that they are coming back next year and want to go to other things in the meantime.... so.. can anyone suggest places or events that are in the Durham / Newcastle area that will break them in gently? Thanks
