Subject: Folklore: Morris Dancing at UK Olympics From: squeezeboxhp Date: 03 Sep 10 - 12:53 PM does it seem a good idea to portray the UK face to the world with massed morris? would this include sword, northwest, border, molly etc? would this preclude the scots and welsh? would the ring sides be seen dancing out with federation mixed sides? Cat firmly among the pidgeons, let us have a Mudcat reponse. |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Morris Dancing at UK Olympics From: VirginiaTam Date: 03 Sep 10 - 01:24 PM I believe Essex Arts Development and Cultural Festival teams are working in concert with Heritage and Archive Services on an opening game display/event/parade that follows the history and culture of Essex beginning with Boudica. Pretty sure they plan to involve the Morris Ring which is headquartered in Thaxted Essex and particularly highlight Molly which is historically Essex. I don't know how one would coordinate a massed morris, since they use different tunes and have different dances. I will reserve judgement as to whether or not it is a good idea. |
