Celtic Music Radio is a Glasgow-based community radio station. We focus primarily on traditional and contemporary celtic/scottish/folk-influenced music - however we are a broad church and I suspect most readers of this forum will find something of interest. Everything from traditional music to blues and americana.
We try to support new and up-and-coming artists, and regularly feature new and demo CDs from a wide range of performers. We try to get out and about to the various music festivals - over the last few weeks we have broadcast from the Balloch folk festival, from the festival club at "Piping Live!", and from the Cowal gathering in Dunoon. During Celtic Connections, we produce around 10 hours of live broadcasts each day from several festival venues, giving airplay and audience to dozens of up-and-coming performers.
This week our featured "Album of the Week" is "The Seedboat (Bàta an t-Sìl)" by Maggie MacInnes and Colum Sands.
"The Seedboat sails from Barra shore, young Donald's gone to Newry. And though he swears a swift return, til then she'll miss him dearly."
You can listen online at http://www.celticmusicradio.net/ and usually on 1530kHz around Glasgow and central Scotland.
I hate making direct appeals for funds, but the Celtic Music Radio transmitter is very sick. Please help get us back on the air. We're a community radio station - that's YOUR community - and also a charity, registered number SC041172.
You can make a direct donation via http://www.celticmusicradio.net/donations/ - we take credit cards and paypal.
Alternatively, you've got 1 day left to take part in our lottery. We have joined with some other small charities to take part in "The Great Big Small Charity Car Draw". Tickets are 2 pounds each - buy as many as you like - and you could win a brand new Mini One!
Of each 2 pound ticket, less than 10p goes on administration and expenses; over 1.90 goes directly to supporting our broadcast and internet services. And one of our listeners might win a car!
You can get paper tickets from any of the Celtic Music Radio team, or buy online at The Foundation for Social Improvement
Click on the "car draw" logo at the bottom right, and make sure you select "Celtic Music Radio" when it asks which charity you want to support.
Closing date is Monday. Unfortunately, you can only enter the draw if you are in the UK!
on behalf of all the Celtic Music Radio team
(The Great Big Small Charity Car Draw is promoted by our friends at the Foundation for Social Improvement, http://www.thefsi.org , a charity that supports other small charities)
