Memory

I just watched a 2008 Japanese film called in English "Departures" ("Okuribito" in Japanese). The first time I have ever cried watching a movie. Not a lot--a little tear I couldn't blink away and I had to blow my nose--but that's a lot for me. Other tear-jerkers over the years have left me cold--everything from "Terms of Endearment" to "Saving Private Ryan" did nothing for me. Too much tragedy before the death scene by which time I'm all for it. But "Departures" has a take on death that is totally different. Trust me, you'll either blink back tears or turn into Niagara Falls. The above music is from the film and captures its essence extremely well. Written by Joe Hisaishi who, due to the West's unwavering fascination with itself, has not received his due for his genius.

This film is also purely Japanese. Cannot be stolen and reshot and completely ruined in Hollywood--THANK GOD! And it actually depicts people other than white as people rather than as people other than white. I'm so sick of Hollywood's condescending patronization I could puke and I simply will not watch any movie that comes out of that cesspool. So this movie is a breath of fresh air to wash out out the horrible reeking stink of Hollywood's colonialist mentality racism.
