very intersting,
Doc Rowe, has his own agenda,a different agenda from Sharp, but still trying to convince us of his own opinions [re his comments at approx 3 .16], however he appears to disapprove of neo pagans trying to turn that tradtion into something they want it to be,.

BUT WHEN THE DRINKING IS DONE BY PEOPLE WHOSE AGENDA HE DOES NOT APPEAR TO APPROVE OF... eg neo pagans trying to turn it into a mid summer pagan ritual, he seems crtical
But how living tradtions evolve are up to the people who get involved., if they want to turn it into a mid summer pagan ritual they will, regardles of anyone eles approval or disapproval
Doc criticises early song collectors, but does not remain neutral as a commentator himself, he too has an agenda
Thankyou Doc Rowe for a fascinating programme, and thankyou for all your collecting, despite my small criticism .I think that you have done a great job over many years

It might be just a bit too early for listen again. The rest of the series is available for 7 days so there's no reason to think this one won't be included.

I've just had a long conversation with Doc and confirmed the details of a new move for the archive. It's going to Whitby!

During September and October the archive will be set up in a business centre on The Ropery, the road behind the Middle Earth Tavern. It's more secure and also a better environment for the tapes and paper.

This opens up lots of possibilities for the archive including events during Whitby Festival. Importantly, it also brings the archive within easy reach of Doc's northern base in Robin Hood's Bay, meaning that he can more easily do some of the development work that is needed to get the archive contents more accessible. Hooray!

Any one off donations at this time would be be especially welcome to help finance the move.

Also, as the new premises are more expensive by a couple of grand per year, new sponsors would be great. We run a scheme called "Buy Doc A Pint", where we donate the price of a pint every month to support the archive. He never gets to drink it of course, but occasionally people do bump into him in a pub and buy him a real pint as well!
