Llantrisant Folk Club burst into life on 10 September 1980, and last night we celebrated with the first of 2 parties.

There were 4 members present who were there at the outset 30 years ago. Some of us managed to remember the first song we ever sang there.

Paul Frowan had hastily composed this little ditty to the tune of Ode to Joy:

!Llantrisant Folk Club 30th Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Penblwydd Hapus
Llantrisant folk club is the best
1500 happy Wednesdays
Prove we've conquered time's tough test

Chorus
Happy birthday to our folk club
30 years all swiftly passed
We are not the club that folk snub
We're the club that's built to last

Lantrisant's New Inn was our first home
At Lionel's pub we gladly stayed
Pints of Flowers with heads of foam on
Kept us happy whilst we played

We've been nomadic, but survivors
To many pubs we've had to roam
Cross Keys, the Bear the Bute the Ivor
But now the Windsor is our home

We've some sad times but mostly glad times
We've lost good friends but found many new
Those who've gone we'll remember oftimes
To night to them we'll sup a few

Our raffle's brilliant it is quite batty
It's prizes renowned the whole world o'er
To founder members Mick and Patty
Many thanks but we want more.

Now look 'ere Splotty, I'm missing Lantrisant FC enough already without having it pop up every five minutes on Mudcat!!!
Seriously, it is a major gap in my life now i have finally moved away. It is nearly 30 years since I first found the club, popped my head round the door and Patti said " Hello, what are you doing 'ere?". I am sadly remiss in not making a memorial cake for the 30th as I did for the 25th and for a few other occasions as I remember.
Congratulations to the Club and all the wonderful loyal members.
The best thing about leaving of course is the joy of return visits.

Andy

Congratulations to the club! many happy memories of coming along the M4 from Reading with my old mate Murray Lewis who proudly claimed to be the furthest travelling member! Happy days. Do you still have the 'Beach Party' evenings in the middle of winter and do marrows still feature as raffle prizes?

all the best,

BobH

The marrow was won two weeks ago, although Pattie no longer grows them. We still have a beach party in the spring.

A very Happy Birthday to you all. This brings back happy memories of the New Inn and being asked not to do too many shanties as the stamping used to bring down plaster from the ceiling in the bar downstairs :)

Hope we may get to visit before the end of the year although we don't get down to Wales so often now all the AP's have moved away

We had a lovely meal last Wednesday to celebrate. Also back in June we celebrated on the summit of Snowdon, and we'll be celebrating again next week with Jo Freya et al. I can't believe I have been involved in runnig the club for more than half my life - and it's still going strong. Thank you to everyone who has supported it over the years and especially to everyone who has their 'little jobs' to do. If ever anyone would like to visit us while in the area or passing through just let me know........Hotel International is open. X The Dame
