Subject: Lyr Req: Clancy Bros - Tommy Makem song From: GUEST,Aussie Will Date: 15 Sep 10 - 04:17 PM I had a Clancy Bros - Tommy Makem (I think) album in the late '60s. There was a tune on there that was (I think) a lullaby, sung in a deep voice. The lyrics went something like "on the winds of the night may your fury be lost, May no one who's dear to our island? Ireland? be lost, Blow the winds gently, Come ____ ____ ____ ____, Shine your light brightly and guide in thy fold? boat? ... I cant get the bleedin tune out of my head and I havent heard it in 40 years and I cant find it on the internet ... it seems like it was titled Coonawara Lullaby but I dont know why I think that ... (I'm gettin old).. I'm playin the ukulele now and I want to learn this song ... Maybe it wasn't Clancy's et al but they were real big in the U.S. then and I was a DJ at a local radio station and I used to play this thing once a week at least ... now I cant for the life of me remember what it was ...any help or links or guidance would be appreciated ... |

Connemara Cradle Song (Trad) On the wings of the wind o'er the dark rolling deep Angels are coming to watch o'er thy sleep Angels are coming to watch over thee So list to the wind coming over the sea Hear the wind blow love, hear the wind blow Lean your head over and hear the wind blow Oh, winds of the night, may your fury be crossed May no one who's dear to our island be lost Blow the winds gently, calm be the foam Shine the light brightly and guide them back home Hear the wind blow love, hear the wind blow Lean your head over and hear the wind blow The currachs are sailing way out on the blue Laden with herring of silvery hue Silver the herring and silver the sea And soon there'll be silver for baby and me Hear the wind blow love, hear the wind blow Lean your head over and hear the wind blow The currachs tomorrow will stand on the shore And daddy goes sailing, a sailing no more The nets will be drying, the nets heaven blessed And safe in my arms dear, contented he'll rest |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Clancy Bros - Tommy Makem song From: Little Robyn Date: 16 Sep 10 - 03:15 AM It looks like a variation of Down in the Valley - it shares the words to the chorus as well. Words and midi are here. and at the bottom it gives links to the Connemara Cradle Song. Robyn |
