Sad news of the death yesterday of John Towner, musician and folk club organiser.

He was a founder member of Hastings band The Mariners and for many years ran one of the best folk clubs in Sussex, at the Black Horse in Telham. He subsequently played with The Telham Tinkers, and most recently, Titus.

He had a lovely, self deprecating sense of humour and was universally liked. His passing is a huge loss to acoustic music in Sussex.

I remember his club well, I gigged there as part of the duo Dick and Sue Miles, sorry to hear this news.
