Hurrah, it's that time of year again!

Merek'n'Dary have been hard at work over the past year sorting out this year's Banbury Festival and they've now confirmed that the MudGather is programmed in for the Saturday from 3-5.45pm. It will be in the Fine Lady Restaurant at the rear of the Banbury Cross Inn where we Gathered last year.

So, who's coming to Banbury then????

Coming to Banbury - we're booked, but don't know what we're doing on Saturday yet.

Leadfingers - wish G a happy burfday from us, in case we haven't already seen her on the actual burfday the week before!

I'm sure you recognised that the above post from me was not from me, but was from Roger! His use of punctuation and double exclamation marks and question marks are a dead giveaway :)

Look forward to seeing you & Richard and all our other friends,

Not long now... I'm hoping we'll have a decent turn-out at the Ukulele workshop on the Saturday at 12 noon, too. I'm a little nervous because there's been no official advance publicity by the festival. If you can help spread the word, I'd be hugely grateful ~8^)

Young Buchan, I guide the MudGather and we meet, sing, play, eat chocolate, hug and drink, not necesarily in that order. Some Catters bring home-made chocolate items, we enjoyed Million Dollar Shortbread at Moira Festival a while back.

Occasionally we have a MudRaffle where people bring 'odd' prizes and buy raffle tickets - all proceeds go to the UK Friends of Mudcat funds which are transferred to Max to help with running costs.

I hope you'll be able to join us!!!

Hamish, I noticed earlier that there is now a brief mention of your uke workshop on the news page of the website.

The website also lists Herbaceous Border for Saturday (when we're outside the the Reindeer Inn from 1 - 2) but makes no mention of us for Sunday (when we're outside the Mill from 11.15 - 12.15.

As usual, everyone is invited to come and dance (border morris, that is) or to play in the 'Hosepipe Banned'.

Not sure if I'll make the Mudgather, Hils, since we're also in the Parade , but I will try & drop in.

Sue

Thanks, Sue: I hadn't noticed that. What with that and a few other mentions via e-mail and whatever, and I'll be sticking fliers around the place on Friday, we should do okay. I certainly know of a few who are "definitely" coming.

Hi,Young Buchan,

I havn't been to a mudgather either, though I have been to Banbury Folk Festival and had a good sing. Do you have to bring your own mud and is there a secret sign? Are strangers welcome, or is this the purpose of the mud?
Please enlighten.

Hesk, a MudGather is just a chance for people who have some association with this 'ere Mudcat website to meet up, chat, play, (eat chocolate) or whatever. Very informal and friendly. If you choose to bring mud, you may be asked to wipe your feet...

We usually introduce ourselves and say a bit about our connection with the site- which is a valuable resource for many of us, and a good way of meeting nice people :)

I might even give my Tshirt an airing!

I'll bring a couple of items along for a raffle, but if there's not much interest I'll hold onto them till Bedworth!

Hesk: I don't recall you being at a MuGather - Do you remember eating chocolate at a singaround?

My guru...

I recall a lot of talk about chocolate, and even a song about it, but not actually eating it. I am not sure that beer and chocolate go that well together, but I am prepared to give most things a try!
But seriously, I don't think I have been to a Mudgather, yet.

I'm pretty sure I've sung the Chocolate Song (Marcus Turner) at a Mudgather... and would like to point out (having won one in a raffle, though not AFAIR a Mudcat raffle) that Young's Brewery did brew a Cadbury's flavoured beer... though I'm also not convinced that beer and chocolate go together...

Looks as though I might get there depending on stewarding. If not please put in my apologies.

Having tried several chocolate beers I can say most of them were very palatable.

Derek D has now sent out artists' joining instructions, so I now know that we'll be running a song session at the Drayton golf club on Friday evening as well as singing in the Big Sing on Saturday - hope to see and hear some of the previous posters and anyone else who fancies joining in.

Sorry we didn't make the Mudgather, but because of programmed events at Drayton involving us, we didn't even get into town from the golf club until 4.30 on Saturday... the only time we used our festival AAA tickets was to go and hear George Wilson at 5 in the Long Room, but we got there early enough to hear Jossie Evans as well. Well done D&M/ M&D for giving an opportunity to such brilliant early talent! (And George even gave up 5 minutes of his spot so Jossie could do an encore).

It was a lovely weekend - great to see and hear so many friends.

Loads of thanks - to M&D for putting it all together, to everyone who came and sang at the session we ran on Friday night, to John Morris and Mr & Mrs Scarecrow for the sessions they ran so well yesterday. And especially to the bus drivers for getting us from the golf club to the Mill and back!

Looking forward to the Song and Ale next April.

Kitty
