Yeah it's actually pretty easy to download youtube videos.

I just use Tunebite whenever I wanna save some good videos I like on pc, since this one can both download and convert youtube videos to avi for easier playback.

Avi seems to me like the best format u should save these kinda videos into, it's way easier to work with than flvs.

On a Mac I use Tooble [it's free], or Safari [window/activity/click on the large file]. When it's downloaded, add .flv.

I'm in Australia but it's probably the same in the UK.

I use Download Helper Firefox extension.

It is claims to able to convert the format, but I don't use that feature. I convert using WinFF/ffmpeg

All you need is the latest version of "Realplayer"...then when you watch a video a tab comes up asking if you want to download it...click on the tab and that's it. It works with internet explorer anyway, although I haven't tried it with firefox.

With Real player installed on your PC, you simply right click the video and download is at the bottom of the pop up menu.

The file will be in flv format and must be converted in order to burn to DVD, but that's another story altogether!!

Hmm. Downloads successfully, both as flv and mp4.
Converted .flv to .avi so that I can put it into Powerpoint.
The .avi works by itself outside Powerpoint, but when inserted in Powerpoint, though I get an image for the icon, when played all I get is sound and a black screen.
Any ideas?

Thanks, folks,
I thought Youtube had prevented downloads somehow. Wrong.

Tried This One and chose MP4 format, as it works on PC and Mac with Quicktime, over flv, which doesn't (I think).

There are lots of other Video/Flash download extensions for Firefox, like this one and many others...

I tried several before I found one I liked, actually this one: Download Flash and Video

I haven't used it for a while, so don't know if it still works.

Does keepvid.com work for you? It is easiest, and they give you several format options.

There are some stunning archive materials on YouTube, and I want to catch some before they disappear.
I had a free Downloadhelper that worked on Firefox, but it doesn't seem to do it any more.
Can anyone recommend a way of doing it, and what the best format is in which to save them?
