Although I lived in Coulsdon and remember taking part in the Cuthraedesdune 1300 celebrations just after my O levels, afraid the band eludes me.

Don't forget to take a parking ticket from the machine and display it in your car or the little man on a scooter will give you a parking ticket!!!

Sorry Pip can't help you although I was near to it then.
May I suggest you approach Coulsdon Library and look up the local paper of that time. Most Libraries have an archive department and are very helpful even supplying photos of the event.
Al

The time: 1975. The place: Coulsdon, outer south London suburbia. The event: a pageant held to celebrate Coulsdon's 1300th anniversary, no less, the place having been found in Anglo-Saxon records under the name of "Cuthraedesdune".

But who were the band? There were three of them; one (M) played guitar, one (F) played guitar and sang, and one (M) played flute, whistles and bongos, and sang. I thought they were just the coolest thing ever in the world, particularly the lead singer/flautist/skin-basher. At the time, I sang (when walking the dog) and played flute (at school); the leader of this band demonstrated that it was possible to do both, and supply the rhythm when needed, and be cool. He rapidly displaced Peter Gabriel to become the #1 Person I Wanted To Be When I Grew Up. I even went out and bought a pair of bongos, although from that day to this they've never actually been out in public.

Vital statistics again:

Time: 1975
Place: the South-East
Lineup: guitarist (M), voc+guit (F), voc+flt+bngos (v. cool) (M)
Material: not entirely sure (it is 35 years ago); in my mind they're playing the Gower Wassail after the style of Steeleye Span on Ten Man Mop (only with added bongoes), but that may not be accurate.

(Very under-rated instrument, the bongoes. The name doesn't help, though - for years I insisted on referring to mine as 'hand-drums'.)
