Subject: Kris Drever/AnnaMassie Sun 26-Twickenham From: evansakes Date: 21 Sep 10 - 06:52 AM TwickFolk at THE CABBAGE PATCH PUB 67 London Road TWICKENHAM Middlesex TW1 3SZ KRIS DREVER with ANNA MASSIE support from Bob Wood and Hector Gilchrist Sunday 26th September at 8 PM Advance Tickets £10 My Space www.MySpace.com/TwickFolk Advance Tickets www.WeGotTickets.com/TwickFolk Website www.TwickFolk.co.uk www.Facebook.com/TwickFolk www.Twitter.com/TwickFolk Here's the blurb from our newsletter.... KRIS DREVER Hails from Orkney and now lives in Edinburgh Scotland. Drever is a multi instrumentalist, songwriter and singer who following two low key releases with the Scottish group Fine Friday and one with Session A9, released his debut album "Black Water" for indie label Reveal Records (October 2006). 'Black Water' brought him to the attention of the BBC Folk Awards who honoured him with the Horizon Award for Best Newcomer and the album has since sold in excess of 10,000 copies in the UK alone. In 2007 Kris spent some time writing and recording with friends John McCusker and (Idlewild front man) Roddy Woomble.. the resulting album "Before The Ruin" later featured amongst Mojo Magazine's Best Folk Albums of 2008 after being released by Navigator in September 2008. Kris is also a founder member of the highly acclaimed and successful Scottish / English trio LAU, winners of the BBC Best Group Award (2008 & 2009). Lau (Aidan O'Rourke, Martin Green & Kris Drever) have released three albums already and picked up a smattering of awards and nominations: "Lightweights & Gentlemen" (Reveal 2007), "Live" (Reveal /Navigator 2008) and "Arc Light" (Navigator 2009). In summer 2009 Kris Drever recorded his new (2nd) solo album "Mark The Hard Earth" with the same production team John McCusker and Andy Seward, he was joined in the studio by guest vocalist Heidi Talbot and Tim O'Brien flew over to collaborate on several songs. A mixture of contemporary and traditional songs "Mark The Hard Earth" was released in spring 2010 on Navigator (CD/Digital) and Reveal (Vinyl) Anna Massie was the winner of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2003 Award. A talented multi-instrumentalist, she excels in playing the fiddle, mandolin and tenor banjo. Though perhaps most impressive is her guitar playing - equally at home either accompanying in her unique rhythmic style or flatpicking tunes, Massie's dexterity shines through. She has already completed one highly successful tour in tandem with Kris Drever and it is an enthralling and well integretaed musical collaboration....Anna is certainly not onstage as a passenger or mere accompanist to Kris' songs. Hector Gilchrist (Soiree, Selkie) and The Ram Club's Bob Wood will open the evening to make it a Caledonian 'full house' |
