Subject: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: eddie1 Date: 24 Sep 10 - 02:04 AM Hi Computer Whizzkids Having had my old laptop stolen, I've bought a new Dell Inspiron running Windows 7 but it will only allow me to record into Adobe Audition by mic and not from the internal sound as my old one did. Any help would be much appreciated Eddie |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Sep 10 - 02:12 AM I think it's the Windows 7, Eddie. I had Audacity set up on a Windows Vista machine, and it would record anything that came through my sound card. Now I have a Windows 7 machine, and I can't get it to record anything but what comes in on "line in" or the microphone input. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: GUEST,Andrew Date: 24 Sep 10 - 04:18 AM Windows 7 stopped me from generating my own MP3s using tabledit. The solution was a 3.5mm stereo lead to link line-out to line-in. Apparantly there is digital to analog conversion then analog to digital again. It also lets me record audio from youtube. A |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: bobad Date: 24 Sep 10 - 07:06 AM There are online converters such as:http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ and http://www.video2mp3.net/ in which you enter the YouTube URL and it converts it to an mp3. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 24 Sep 10 - 08:47 AM I think W7 allows individual sound settings for each application. You must make the sound output from your browser available to the input of Audacity. At the moment I have no time to research the exact procedure for you, sorry. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: olddude Date: 24 Sep 10 - 09:20 AM Absolutely Total Recorder is what you want total recorder |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: Tootler Date: 24 Sep 10 - 07:03 PM I download the You Tube Video (using download helper addin for Firefox), import it into a movie editor and extract the audio from the video. You should be able to do this with Windows Movie Maker, but you will probably have to convert the video file into a format that WMM will import. Download helper should be able to convert the video to other formats, but failing that try WinFF (just Google "WinFF") Maybe a bit more clumsy than having a direct recorder, but free and a useful fall back if other approaches fail.(Total Recorder is not) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: open mike Date: 25 Sep 10 - 01:09 AM there is an application which allows you to record up to 5 minutes it is called replay a v . I have used it to convert and save some files. the free, demo version is limited to 5 min. but you might give it a try. www.applian.com/replay-av/demo.php |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: eddie1 Date: 25 Sep 10 - 05:22 AM Thanks folks. Will try these various solutions. There is a long and in many ways wonderful and also sad story behind my request. Still going through the sad part but will explain all when I feel more like it. Great to be able to rely on Mudcat when the chips are down! Thanks Eddie1 |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: wysiwyg Date: 25 Sep 10 - 10:07 AM Total Recorder is great, but bobad's liitle link about is really neat, once you find the video you want. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: open mike Date: 25 Sep 10 - 11:20 AM I the sad part co0nnected with the loss of your lap top? I hope what ever it is that you find a way to overcome it somehow. I had a sad and angry thing happen once when i took my lap top to get serviced, and they erased hours of saved music I had recorded (probably using replay a.v. the program i told you about) from when I used to host a live jam on line at paltalk and we spent many wonderful hours on there sharing music, singing and playing with people from all over the world. When those files disappeared, I lost a bit of myself and a lot of joyful memories...but there is always tomorrow! |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: eddie1 Date: 26 Sep 10 - 03:04 AM Hi Folks Thanks again for the help. You deserve the full story so here goes. Some 50 years ago, a young, beardless, shorthaired me played bass in a country band at Kirknewton USAF base just outside Edinburgh. I was the only Scot in the band, the rest being US servicemen. The lead guitarist was a Chet Atkins playalike called Jim Cobble. I got on well with Jim and his wife Elaine and when there first child, Elaine, was born in an Edinburgh hospital, I held her in my arms when she was less than 12 hours old. After a couple of years, Jim was posted away and we lost touch. Jump on to 2005ish. I was preparing a pre-recorded radio show and was using a Chet Atkins track. Chet had not long died and I checked out the Internet for some facts about him. I got on to the website for the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society and found a list of tributes. Tucked in there was one from a Jim Cobble! I went for it and sent a brief e-mail asking if he was the same guy. Got a reply within 10 minutes enclosing a black & white picture of the band! Yep! The very same Jim Cobble! We stayed in touch and I had a couple of great holidays with Jim and his family in Millington, West Tennessee. It was as if we'd never been apart and the 50 years between hadn't happened. I was welcomed into their family and circle of friends. Jump on to this year. I knew Jim was ill, had been in hospital and had been allowed home with daily visits from Hospice. Elaine and Sylvia kept me posted but I was reluctant to keep asking about his health and disturbing them at such a difficult time. Jump on to last Friday. I was not sleeping too well and got up about 4.00am our time and set myself down at my nice new laptop. I don't use Facebook very much but I had an e-mail saying ******** wants to be your friend. I was happy to accept and clicked on the link, checked on my page and thought I'd check on Sylvia to see how Jim was doing. Sadly, Jim had passed away and the funeral was over. I was doing a radio show Friday morning and, because I knew there were a couple of clips of Jim playing on YouTube, tried to record them to do a little tribute to Jim on my show. You can imagine my annoyance when I discovered I couldn't record, hence the message to Mudcat. I did have enough to give Jim a tribute, playing a track by his son, Jeff accompanying Jim's granddaughter Ashton, a track of myself singing "The Hug Song" a song that Jim had backed me on several times at The Strand Theatre in Millington and finishing with "I Bid You Goodnight" by Tom Rawson., a song I love and have ticked to be played when it's my time to go. Now you know the whole story, Thanks guys! Eddie1 |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: Rog Peek Date: 21 Feb 13 - 03:08 AM Eddie- I had the same problem when I switched to win7. This worked for me: Click start>control panel>hardware and sound>manage audio devices. Now click on recording tab and enable 'stereo mix' (sometimes called 'what you hear'). Hope you get sorted. Rog |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: GUEST Date: 21 Feb 13 - 04:29 AM Interesting to see this still floating around after 2 1/2 years! Lots of interesting tips but most made me feel as if I'm on a different Windows 7 from the rest of the world! Rog – when I go through the procedure you have outlined, I find no link to 'stereo mix', only to the internal mike and to an external usb mike which I usually use. The only situation to work for me is to have a double mini-jack adaptor in the speaker socket. I then have a link to my external speakers/earphones and another lead to the mike input. This really gives me all I need. The other recording programs folks mentioned throw up exactly the same problem as I continue to have with Adobe Audition. I'm inclined to the first reply I had back in 2010 in that I don't think MS want us recording from the Internet. Hey but thanks for the suggestions. Eddie |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: Nick Date: 21 Feb 13 - 04:59 AM Atube catcher is pretty nifty at doing most things with video and audio. Recording sound from YouTube is definitely one |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: terrier Date: 21 Feb 13 - 08:32 AM I'm running two separate machines running win7. One machine has the 'stereo mix' available, the other doesn't even though I've clicked on 'show hidden devices'. I read that it works if you use the Vista sound driver (I've posted this before). So can any techie tell me what that means and how to do it?? (in plain, un-techie, jargonless English ;)Please. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 21 Feb 13 - 11:40 AM I have found MP3 Rocket software the simplest way to record from youtube. Paste the url from the youtube track you want to record into MP3 Rocket and a couple of clicks and the process is started. The recording is usually complete before the piece on youtube ends. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: GUEST,Ed Date: 21 Feb 13 - 01:27 PM keepvid.com/ also works well. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: Bev and Jerry Date: 21 Feb 13 - 08:17 PM Wow! Just downloaded MP3 Rocket and it works great. Couldn't be simpler. Just in time for a project we're doing which requires recording the audio from several You Tube videos. Thanks much, Arkie. Bev and Jerry |
Subject: RE: Tech: Recording Audio from YouTube From: Bill D Date: 21 Feb 13 - 09:47 PM One way is to use something like Sound Leech, which captures any sounds going thru the sound card. You start it, hit 'play' on the desired sound, and then go rename it in the folder. |
