"Then he drives a Case all day" -- capitalized, since Case is a well-respected old tractor-making firm.

Just a point to remember.

Bob

Well, it looks like Allmusic.com screwed up. If you look at their description of an album they call "The Priscilla," the picture there is of the album cover of "The Water Lily."

"According to Allmusic.com, Priscilla Herdman did indeed record OLD WOOLEY, but it was on her album "The Priscilla" (1977). They attribute it to Don Lange."

Actually it is on The water Lily" one a group of albums that I consider as "Perfect" recordings.

OLD WOOLIE

( ) C D7 G C / G C D7 / C G C / G D7 G

Clear the beer from the table boys; it's well nigh time to
close
And we'll all want to hear Mr Woolie pick and sing.
Then a cat from Alabama got up and played his nose
My didn't those old ale house walls ring.

G C G / G D7 / C G C G / G D7 G

An old cowboy picker blew into the bar last night
Said his name was Woolie, he was more than just half tight
Said he sang with the "Texas Playboys" back in '34
Then the proprietor got up and he locked the door

CHORUS

Played an old Hank Williams tune, just to warm his hand
Then he recollected some of those days with the Bob Wills band
Then he played a couple of country tunes, I don't believe we had
heard
Just the same, we all stood and cheered.

CHORUS

Woolie's from Missouri, and he farms in Ioway
Drinks a case at night, because he drives a case all day
And that whole bar full of longhairs won't mind rememberins
The night they heard old Woolie pick and sing.

CHORUS

Our guest is apparently commenting on the lyrics in our database, where the song is called OLD WOOLIE, and has no attribution.

According to Allmusic.com, Priscilla Herdman did indeed record OLD WOOLEY, but it was on her album "The Priscilla" (1977). They attribute it to Don Lange.

It also says Lesley Schatz recorded OLD WOOLEY on her album "Walls, Hearts & Heroes" (Bear Family Records, 1992), but it has no sample nor songwriter credit, so I can't confirm it's the same song.

You can hear it here in part being sung by Priscilla Herdman.

The song Old Woolie is recorded on Priscilla Herdman's The Water Lily, 1976. (subsequently re-released on CD (I don't know when)).

The song is listed as "Old Wooley" not "Old Woolie".

It was written by Don Lange, and copywritten by Barking Spider BMI.

Album notes:
"Don Lange was performing one night in 1971 in a place called "The Mill" in Iowa City, Iowa, when an old fellow asked if he could play a couple of tunes. The song Old Wooley grew from the events that followed that evening. "The Mill" was a place I frequented back in the late sixties."
