Speaking of statistics, does anybody remember about 3 years ago they did a survey of people asking who would give up TeeVee entirely for the rest of their life for a million dollars, and 25% (twenty five per cent) replied that they would not give up their TeeVee for what today will free you from ever working again...Is that indicative of something?

bbc, you're a musician, so IMPROVISE!!! Yes, I know an addiction when I see it, and to quote Cole Porter, "I got it bad and that ain't good". Well, maybe it's not so bad.

Hey guess what!! I'm a finalist in the Northwest Sea Shanty writing contest!! I am amazed that I got this far. Have to perform in Tacoma Sept. 18th. Should be fun. I hope some mudders will be there,

Margarita

Alice,

Perhaps you should have offered Craig a tune by Cheryl Wheeler entitled "Is it Peace or is it Prozac?" on her CD Mrs. Pinocci's Guitar. A wonderful little ditty.

I found my favorite story by Archie. I hope you enjoy it. and I hope the copy comes out right.

the lesson of the moth

i was talking to a moth the other evening he was trying to break into an electric light bulb and fry himself on the wires

why do you fellows pull this stunt i asked him because it is the conventional thing for moths or why if that had been an uncovered candle instead of an electric light bulb you would now be a small unsightly cinder have you no sense

plenty of it he answered but at times we get tired of using it we get bored with the routine and crave beauty and excitement fire is beautiful and we know that if we get too close it will kill us but what does that matter it is better to be happy for a moment and be burned up with beauty than to live a long time and be bored all the while so we wad all our life up into one little roll and then we shoot the roll that is what life is for it is better to be a part of beauty for one instant and then cease to exist than to exist forever and never be a part of beauty our attitude toward life is come easy go easy we are like human beings used to be before they became too civilized to enjoy themselves

and before i could argue him out of his philosophy he went and immolated himself on a patent cigar lighter i do not agree with him myself i would rather have half the happiness and twice the longevity

but at the same time i wish there was something i wanted as badly as he wanted to fry himself

Sound advice, Peter. I need to be more circumspect in who I tell about moonlighting as a cyber-barmaid, as well. Mom took it upon herself to inform all my Southern Baptist relatives, without further explanation. There goes a lot of prayer time that could be better spent (like praying for my job security!). Speaking seriously for a moment, though, the knowledge & experience I've gained this summer, working on the web pages, can only be for the good.

My boss gave me hell, bbc. I can only come to Mudcat at lunch time and my honey gets awfully possesive at night. It's real hard and I'm starting to break....

If the 6% that do the web are ill, what about all the rest who do TV constantly?? They must be really bad!! Or even worse, those who read, for heavens sake!! I've seen people doing crossword puzzles on the bus!! Imagine! I'm talking NY Times puzzles..in INK!! Sick!

Some of us need mental stimulation after dealing with the nonsensical ravings of lunatic minds (Poetic license) all day. A way to get the hell away from the insanity.

Hi Emily. I don't think we've met. Nice to meet you. I love your name. Emily Rain.

Talk about long sentences, has anyone ever read "Archie and Mehitobel(?sp). It was a cartoon series in the old Chicago Sun a long while back. Archie was a transmuted poet into a cockroach that wrote poetry. Great stuff. I'll go look it up tonight at home. He couldn't type capitals or punctuation because he would climb to the top of the typewriter and jump down on a key and he couldn't hold down the shift and jump on a key. Mehitobel maintained that she was, in fact, Cleopatra, transmuted into a cat. Again, great stuff.

Love, annap (hopelessly addicted)

Just tell them you've been having a deep discussion with Possum blowers, Jello wrestlers, hokey-pokey dancers, tiple players from the "Neil Young Center for the Terminally Screwed," and an environmentalist who dresses up herons to look like Waylon Jennings.

Hmmmmmm............better keep your job at the Pub.

I may have to admit that I have a problem. This summer, I was s'posed to revamp my entire school program, so as to be prepared for September. Instead, I went to a couple of folk music weekends & a get-together at annap's, planned & hosted a Mudcat party, & picked up the photo & profile pages. I have had a really wonderful time. Now, school is 1 1/2 weeks from opening, I've just found out my principal (who liked me!) has quit to take another job, & I'm wondering what I've done!!!!!! As others have stated, the creativity, warmth, & general looniness of you folks has got me in its grip & I have no desire to be loosed. Sure hope I can maintain enough self-control to keep a job!

best from NY,
