Hi, I'm searching for an old song
I'm not quite sure what the title is
but here are some of the lyrics I have.
God Bless.

Will I've traveled many's a many miles today
I go how dreary
And luck has never come across my way
I go how dreary
Once I had a home but I've no daddy now
But I've got to live as I can, anyhow
Last night I stood before a house and it gave my heart a pang
Someone was ...? and all the children sang.

They were singing that song of home sweet home, by the fire light glow
Tears filled my eyes as I stood in the blinding snow
........................
Just to hear those children singing .....
there's no place like home.

Well someone came and pulled the window blind
.........

At last those children's voices you could hear them everywhere.

Could be worth checking with the VWML at Cecil Sharp House?

Hi, I'm searching for an old song
I'm not quite sure what the title is,
it could be any one of these..
"The Grand Christmas Tree"
"Home Sweet Home" or "There's No Place Like Home"??
Here are some of the lyrics I have.
God Bless.

I go how dreary
And luck has never come across my way

Hi,
I have this on a 78 from about 1913 or so sung by the English singer harry fay, it is a little warn out but here's what i can make out of it. If you would like an mp3 file email me at rgodridge1@gmail.com

I met a little ragged boy one day
Hey ho so weary
Good luck had never come across his way
Hey ho 'twas dreary
Once he'd a home but he's no daddy now
He's got to live as he can anyhow
One night he stood before a house it gave his heart a pang
For someone played so sweetly and all the children sang

CHORUS: They were singing home sweet home
In the fire light glow
Tears filled his eyes as he stood in the blinding snow
Think what it meant to one who friendless had to roam
To hear children singing the beautiful song of home sweet home

He couldn't tear himself away he wept
Hey ho for sadness
And closer to the window pain he crept
Inside all gladness
[Something i can't understand]... a grand Christmas tree
Just as it used in the old days to be
He saw the happy mother and the dear old smiling dad
It brought back sweet remembrance of the joys that once he had

CHORUS: They were singing home sweet home
In the fire light glow
Tears filled his eyes as he stood in the blinding snow
Think what it meant to one who friendless had to roam
To hear children singing the beautiful song of home sweet home

I know that this is not the same, but I do like the song "The Man Who Wrote 'Home Sweet Home' Never was a Married Man"!

The British Library has sheet music for a song described thus:

THEY WERE SINGING "HOME, SWEET HOME". (THE WAIF'S SONG.)
Words and music by Harry Dacre
London : Nightingale & Co, [1907]
