A comic song possibly by someone called Bridgestone - all about unrequited love and the murder of a Portuguesa/Portugeezer? Any help on lyrics or guitar chords/tab?

It's been posted here.

Rory Heap used to sing this to a tune related to the Star of the County Down, which I think fits it rather better.

Think your thinking of Derek Brimstone who used to sing it in the 1970's and possibly still does.

But it wasn't written by Paddy Roberts!!!

Derek Brimstone is and always was the best-known performer of this song, and for good reason...

In reply to a query on an earlier thread he emailed the following...

".....'Portuguese' was written by a chap called Patrick Cogshill. He was a student at Exeter university and he did a floor spot at my gig there - sang three brilliantly funny songs that he'd written - and that was one of them. He dictated the words to me - (I wish I'd got the other two, they were just as good)- and the rest is history. I never saw, or heard from him again - just sort of immediately lost touch, although I attributed the song to him on my first album"

I wonder what happened to Patrick Cogshill - will he one day emerge from obscurity and claim his back royalties?

When I perform the song, I attribute it correctly "by Patrick Cogshill out of Derek Brimstone!". It would be good if others did too!

Sorry, Lanfranc, I have seen the attribution and should have pointed that out as well.
