Subject: Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: curmudgeon Date: 10 Oct 10 - 04:45 PM This coming Saturday, 16 October, is the date for the monthly shanty/forebitter/ballad session at the Press Room in Portsmouth NH from 3:30 to 7:30 PM. This should be a better than average session as we are expecting to be joined by our mate from London, Micca Patterson. We also need to do some get well/good health anthems for Jon Bartlett who we hope to see again in the not too distant future - Tom |

Subject: RE: Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: Bat Goddess Date: 11 Oct 10 - 08:21 AM I have to leave Friday night's session early because I'm opening Saturday morning for my boss, but I'll be leaving work on Saturday well in time to get to The Press Room for the shanty sing. (And, I hope, lunch and a beer first while listening to Larry Garland's jazz.) Linn |
Subject: RE: Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: SINSULL Date: 11 Oct 10 - 08:26 AM I expect to be there to fetch Mr. Patterson. HMMM If he played the banjo, he could be Banjo Patterson. I'll go get some coffee now. SINS |
Subject: RE: Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: Bat Goddess Date: 12 Oct 10 - 10:09 AM Anybody got a clue as to Micca's plans? I think he's being delivered to us (well, Tom will be home) at the ol' homestead on Friday. Mary, if you're picking him up at the shanty session on Saturday, will he be back in our neck of the woods at some point for a real visit? I have to work 9-2 on Saturday, so I have to leave the Friday session early. Then I can meet Tom & Micca for lunch and jazz on Saturday. Not much time for conversation all 'round. Linn |

Subject: RE: 16 Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: Bat Goddess Date: 13 Oct 10 - 12:15 PM Well, I DON'T have to work on Saturday, so I can stay late on Friday night. I'll have to work, as usual, on Sunday, but that doesn't affect my attendance at the shanty session. Yeehah! Linn |

Subject: RE: 16 Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: SINSULL Date: 16 Oct 10 - 02:09 PM Feels like yesterday. I miss Barry. Sniffling here. The beginnings of a cold. I am staying put. I was looking forward to seeing everyone again. Feed Micca - OK? SINS |
Subject: RE: 16 Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: MMario Date: 16 Oct 10 - 02:17 PM Sue YOung is planning on Shanty Sing; I think she'll like Micca |
Subject: RE: 16 Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: Charley Noble Date: 16 Oct 10 - 11:06 PM There was a goodly crowd there, about a dozen or so strong singers and another 8 or so singing primarily on chorus and refrain. We just got back after having dinner in Portsmouth and I'm too bushed to provide the usual summary. But it really felt good to be in a room where people really knew most of the songs and would join right in with chorus or refrain or with instruments. It was one of the most laid back sessions I've attended, with significant gaps between songs rather than one person jumping in right after another. I think I prefer that! Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: 16 Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: Bat Goddess Date: 17 Oct 10 - 10:25 AM MMario -- wait til you see the pic of Sue and Micca in tete a tete I'll post at Facebook if I have time after I get home from work today. And I'll post a list of what was sung -- great session! Charley back from his travels, David Coffin up from that commonwealth to the south, decent attendance and wonderful harmonies. Mark's song later in the evening (with yea and nayers Bruce MacIntyre and Charley) was a real treat. Yeah, we get a bit silly (in the best sense) sometimes... Barry was there in spirit...as he is so often. His voice is still loud amongst us. Linn |
