Judy's songs were recorded and performed by Gordon Bok, Archie Fisher, Tommy Makem, Ed Trickett, Ann Mayo Muir, among others. I have a fair bit of information about her, her songs, and her many published poems. Gordon, a long time friend of Judy's, perhaps knew her best.

John, let me know how I can help your friend; email or PM is fine.
A search on Mudcat and the DT will bring up many of her songs.

Maeve

A sampling:

Regarding her song, "The Gift of the Trees' (J.B. Goodenough; Arr. T. Makem)Tommy Makem wrote,"My friend, the late J.B. Goodenough had a way with words and a surprising way of looking at things that is denied to most of us mere mortals." Tommy Makem's Christmas 1995—Shanachie 52041 CD From http://clancybrothersandtommymakem.com/tm_d19_christmas.htm

Her books of poetry:
"Bury the Blackbird Here: Poems" by J.B. Goodenough
'For years, poet Judy Goodenough traded poems, songs and inspiration with Gordon. Before she died, she asked Gordon to publish her last book of poetry. Not afraid to tell it like it is, her poems are rural New England, as raw as the granite hills. Sometimes eerie, often humorous, Gordon says, "No one could snap my literary garters like she could."'

I fixed your link, Maeve. Apparently, the "american" in the URL changed to "america". --Mod

I'm looking for the lyrics to a song called ?. The chorus is "Come home all my children. Come home that's what I said. Dark is a falling, hoot owl's a calling. All in the wagon and home to bed." The verses are about "little Dan", little Mary", etc.

The little bit I do have shows Judy Goodenough as the author. I'd like to know if this is correct. Where can I find more?

Thanks!

Yes, Judy B. Goodenough is the author of "Come Home, All My Children". Verified here:
J. B. GOODENOUGH, POET OF RURAL AMERICA: A BIBLIOGRAPHY : "Come Home, All My Children," 1983.
[Words and Music]" Anne May Muir's recording is probably the best known version (on the album,
"The Music of Ann Mayo Muir", available here: http://www.folk-legacy.com/store/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=167),
recorded under the title. "Little Dan". She recorded it with Gordon Bok and Ed Trickett ("Minneapolis Concert" album.)
Here's a sample: Listen: "Little Dan"/ "Come Home All My Children"

From the liner notes of Folk Legacy's CD "The Music of Ann Mayo Muir" titled "Little Dan"

Little Dan, Little Dan,
Sifting gold in an old fry pan,
You're half a baby and you're half a man,
And I'm waiting at the top of the hill,
Singing:

Come home, all my children,
Come home, that's what I said.
Dark is a-falling, hoot-owl's a-calling
All in the wagon and home to bed.

Little Mary, little Mary,
Catching fish with a thread and a berry,
Sun's going down and your bones are weary,
And I'm waiting at the top of the hill,
Singing:

Chorus

Little Joe, little Joe,
Tracking unicorns in the snow,
You've gone about as far as you can go,
And I'm waiting at the top of the hill,
Singing,

Chorus

Little Dinah, little Dinah,
Muddy overalls and a blue bandanna,
Digging a hole clear down to China,
And I'm waiting at the top of the hill,
Singing,

Come home, all my children,
Come home, that's what I said,
Dark is a-falling, hoot-owls a-calling,
All in the wagon and home ...
         To bed.
