Subject: ADD: Brothers in Arms (Knopfler/Dire Straits) From: Joe Offer Date: 10 Nov 20 - 10:37 PM BROTHERS IN ARMS (Mark Knopfler) These mist covered mountains Are a home now for me But my home was the lowlands And always will be Someday you'll return to Your valleys and your farms And you'll no longer burn to be Brothers in arms Through these fields of destruction Baptisms of fire I've witnessed your suffering As the battle raged higher And though they did hurt?? me so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me My brothers in arms There's so many different worlds So many different suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones. Now the sun's gone to hell And the moon riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But it's written in the starlight And every line in your palm We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms "Brothers in Arms" is a 1985 song by Dire Straits, appearing as the closing track on the album of the same name. It was written in 1982, the year of the Falklands War. Dire Straits recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhdFe3evXpk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brothers_in_Arms_(song) |

Subject: RE: Origins: Brothers in Arms (Knopfler/Dire Straits) From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 11 Nov 20 - 05:23 PM Well, I've always thought that the Mujahideen rebel fighters in Afghsnistan fit the bill. They were big news in the UK at the time the song was written and of course they left their homes in the valleys to fight a guerilla war from the mountains. It also gave those fighters an " Everyman" quality rather than the professional soldiers in the Falklands War. Of course, I'm sure Matk drew inspiration from a number of sources. |
Subject: RE: Origins: Brothers in Arms (Knopfler/Dire Straits) From: Hagman Date: 11 Nov 20 - 09:23 PM Co-incidentally, the not-late great Lisa O'Neill has a new version as well - https://fb.watch/1IllGh7-iX/ - not sure if it will be available outside of FB sign-in. Apologies in advance if this is so. |
