Found this buried in the Getaway thread: Elizabeth LaPrelle, the lovely young singer of American traditional songs, was featured on NPR's Weekend Edition on Sunday: "Power In Simplicity In 'Black Is The Color'".

I was at the Fiddler's Convention in Goleta, CA, all day and missed my usual NPR fix, so missed it. Glad I can catch it online.

We're stoked! We missed it live too - John and I didn't even know it might happen, and Elizabeth knew but didn't get but 12 hrs warning by email and hadn't checked her email! So I was surprised when I started getting "congrat" emails on Sunday afternoon...

(Same link as mine, Mark.)

That NPR spot was part of a series airing monthly and produced by the Western Folklife Center, in Elko, Nevada, called "What's in a Song". They don't have Elizabeth on their page yet, but there are links to previous songs/stories: clicky. Here is the NPR page for the series: clicky2.

Refreshing this thread to say that NPR continues to show her love:

I heard the interview with the "creepy old lady" on Sunday morning. It's wonderful that NPR gave her so much space.

The "crankies" are wonderful to watch. She and Anna Roberts-Gevalt make these, designing all the art work, cutting out material and sewing, and they are truly beautiful to watch.
Another one, not on the NPR site is Lord Bateman and the Turkish Lady.

I heard the recorded version...(was out at craft show for the 'live' broadcast) Very nice....

And those crankies are marvelous! I've seen, I think, 4 of 'em live.
