So I thought I might get serious about this folk music stuff this year, maybe try to do something of substance for once in my life. Anyone want to go to Folk Alliance with me and rattle some cages? Thought I'd ask all 2000 attendees what is folk. "Folk" and "Business" huh? Completely intrigued. Who's in?

Sounds fascinating, you genuinely thinking about stirring up something Max? But based on the bulk of US posts if you're looking to rattle cages, I imagine you'll be preaching to the converted. From my own experience however, it seems that the UK (traditionalists at least) have evolved from very sturdy stock. If you want to genuinely rattle *their* cages, hmm....

A first look at the web-site shows what looks like a massive trade show in a hotel. Much as Mrs V says Memphis in mid-February might be warmer than southern England, I am not convinced that a five-day trade show is something for I which would necessarily wish to incur transatlantic air fares and eventual jet-lag.

So what have I missed, bearing in mind that I'm doing well to get to some of Sidmouth or Towersey?

I would suggest that you do a search of past threads about the Folk Alliance. there are some very different opinions about the conference and organisation.

I, for one, am grateful to Andy Cohen for forcing the organisation to officially give roots-based, traditional song and music a place at the conference.
