Subject: Tune Req: W S Gilbert's Dulcamara From: muzzaguchi Date: 24 Oct 10 - 04:01 AM Hi all, I'm new to the cafe and in Sydney, Australia. I'm doing some research into mounting a production of W S Gilbert's first play - Dulcamara - a burlesque on Donizetti's opera L'Elisir D'amore. It was first produced in 1866 and used 22 pieces of music - most from then popular Music Hall and parlour songs. Any assistance tracking down tunes etc would be most appreciated (several songs which I have omitted below came up on a google search which directed me here) The songs I'm trying to track are: 'The Nerves' performed by French and Harvey Arthur Lloyd's 'I vow'd that I never would leave her' 'Jog along boys' 'Lin and Tin' 'Old Sarah Walker' 'The Frog in Yellow' 'The Sugar Shop' 'Alpen Horn' 'Gentil Hussard' (possibly 'il gentil hussard' or published as 'Hungarian ari no. 2' I believe that I have sourced scores/recordings/tune transcriptions of the other 14 pieces - although it is of interest that some are claimed to only have been published in 1868 (The Arthur Lloyd I think is one) but were used by Gilbert in Dec 1866 so must be earlier. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. Yours Murray |
