Subject: The Parade of the Tin Soldiers From: Jonibee Date: 27 Oct 10 - 08:14 AM The above is a piece of music (generally known by people over the age of 30years !!!???) composed by Leon Jessell in the days of yore. However, I am aware that some lyrics may exist for the piece, as I was able to quote a few when I heard the music being played recently. My query, then - does anyone know the complete (or partial) lyrics to this piece, please? |

Subject: Lyr Add: PARADE OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS (MacDonald/ From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Nov 10 - 01:10 AM These lyrics are copied from the web site Hymns and Carols of Christmas: (That web site also has a MIDI file and a Noteworthy Composer file.) PARADE OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS Words by Ballard MacDonald, 1922. Music by Leon Jessel, 1905. The toy shop door is locked up tight And ev'rything is quiet for the night When suddenly the clock strikes twelve The fun's begun The dolls are in their best arrayed There's going to be a wonderful parade Hark to the drum, oh, here they come Cries ev'ryone Hear them all cheering Now they are nearing There's the captain stiff as starch Bayonets flashing Music is crashing As the wooden soldiers march Sabers a-clinking Soldiers a-winking At each pretty little maid Here they come Here they come Here they come Here they come Wooden soldiers on parade Daylight is creeping, Dollies are sleeping, In the toyshop window fast; Soldiers so jolly, Think of each dolly, Dreaming of the night that's past. When in the morning, Without a warning, Toyman pulls the window shade, There's no sign of the Wood Brigade Was ever out upon parade. |

However, if you would like to look at my thread 'mid 50's song' (which I responded to a few moments ago), then you will see that the lyrics that I am looking for have been partially supplied by 'GUEST' on 14th Nov. Thank you Jonibee |
