I am starting a seperate thread for this rather than in the Swinton permathread because this is a rather special event.

On Friday 19 November at 8:30pm we have the brilliant Brian Peters, very ably supported by Bonz, on at the White Lion in Swinton. While it is in the same room as Swinton Folk Club it is more of a 'club concert' and, being on a Friday, outside the usual club organisation.

Tickets are only £6 and, for such a great evenings entertainment, are likely to be in high demand. So let me know here if you want to reserve any in advance.

Be there. No alternatives :-)

Cheers

Dave

Too far away to visit - but luckily Edinburgh in early December is do-able!
Brian is immensely talented, passionate about his material, totally professional -- and not at all po-faced!
Should be a smashing night, Dave.

And for those of you who don't know Bonz, who is my own choice of support at Swinton: he's a great banjo and slide guitar player, with a fantastic repertoire of old-time, blues, country and just about any other kind of material. He was with me in the Mossley Dukes and Rocky Mountain Ploughboys, and we'll definitely be doing some songs together - could be anything from Appalachian versions of Child Ballads to Dusty Springfield.

I was asked on Monday if it was THE Bonz - He is that good! Sorry Brian - No-one asked if it was THE Brian Peters...

We (Orange Peel Morris) held a gig for him in Canada in September, he was GREAT. I was the opening act/MC, I was MC really and promoted myself to opener by doing "Little Aggie" in an endeavour to get our friends Canadian ears adjusted to a Lancashire accent.
Say Hi to him please Dave from John and Tina.
Thanks, JohnB

Well, what a great night! In spite of the low attendance, Brian was the cosummate professional and did a wonderful show. Shame my op caught up with me half way though and I had to leave but I have heard from some of the others there who say he just got better and better all night. Bonz was a realy good choice as support too because his songs counterpointed Brians more traditional ones very well indeed yet, while duetting, the two styles realy complemented each other. And no jokes about banjos and melodeons together please. Brian did them all..:-)

A big public thank you to Brian and Bonz for putting on such a good show in difficult circumstances. Next time I will make sure we sell out even if I have to knock on every door in Salford!

Cheers

Dave

My sympathy on the broken wrist, Dave. I wish I could have heard this special concert. Might any of it be available- perhaps on Youtube?

Maeve
