Subject: RE: Steve Ashley, Barnsley 15th Nov From: GUEST,Clive Pownceby Date: 17 Nov 10 - 05:47 PM Steve is writing some outstanding new material if what was heard on the 3-date mini-tour he did over the past few days is anything to go by. Quite apart from the songs he's best known for, there are some fine new compositions seeing the light of day. In particular,'There Will Be Pain' deserves a wide recognition. The man is simply one of our best writers. Great gig in Southport Steve - thanks so much. |

For nearly 40 years, his innovative English albums have enjoyed widespread critical acclaim, and his songs have been covered by many leading folk artists, including among many others: Fairport Convention, Anne Briggs, Martin Simpson, Wizz Jones, Dave Pegg and PJ Wright, Phil Beer, Bill Zorn, St Agnes' Fountain, Grace Notes and The Bushwackers. His award-winning debut album, 'Stroll On' is widely regarded as a folk-rock classic and his latest for Topic Records , 'Time and Tide' was described by fROOTS as 'a modern day masterpiece'. A former member of The Albion Country Band, Ragged Robin and his own Steve Ashley Band, Steve has also been an occasional guest of Fairport Convention. But, as Q Magazine has stated: "Ashley is his own man and still brims with insightful visions of Britain after a career spanning four decades." Steve also has what New York's Variety magazine called 'one of the funniest of dry stage raps'. |
