Subject: Mudcat Song Contest & Live Radio!!!!
From: katlaughing
Date: 27 Aug 99 - 05:38 PM

Just read the following in Max's news of the day and felt it deserved a thread of its own. THIS IS EXCITING!!!! And, obviously Max & Bert are looking for a lot of participation, so come on Mudders.....JOIN IN!!!

Introducing Mudcat Radio, Episode I "Feet First" Wednesdays 7pm to 8pm EST in Real Audio here at the Mudcat, hosted by Max and Bert.

Episode I "Feet First" is going to be one heck of an experiment. We decided not to do a dry run or an experiment without an audience, and just make it the theme of the show. Anyhow, we're going to expect anything and have fun with it.

The hopeful itinerary of Episode I will be as follows:

Theme Song Intro (more about this later) Mudcat Radio and Episode I Introduction What's On (A look around the globe about what's going on out there with Traditional Music - Submissions not only welcome, but necessary)

Interview (Episode I - Sandy Paton by Phone Pending) Songs and Mudcatter Song of the Week (Whatever Bert and I want to play live or spin off of CD) Possom Sitings (...make your own witty remark here...) Mudcat Talk (Max and Bert talk about what's going on in the forum) On the Phone 1-888-488-9050 (call ins are welcome throughout the show, but this is possible a planned or organized section... who knows) Folk Talk (whatever we want to talk about) Record Review (Episode I, maybe Guy Wolff's Music From Wolff Pottery) World News (News from Mudcatters around the globe - Australia, Iceland, Canada, etc.) Theme Song Out We are going to be having a Theme Song Contest for two songs, an intro song at the beginning and a goodbye song at the end. We can have multiple winners for each and will rotate all the entries. Send your entries on CD or tape or email them, anything. The winners will receive Mudcat Music, which could be a copy of Art Thieme's "On the Wilderness Road" (Vinyl) or any number of albums that have been contributed to the Mudcat.

As mentioned above, we will take calls throughout the show, and will also be in the chat, so be sure to put your two cents in one way or another. We are really interested in a very interactive experience.

We have no expectations really, we're just going to try to have some fun with this. Feel free to contribute stuff for us to do and talk about. And be sure to tune in Wednesdays 7-8pm Eastern Standard Time.

I don't know, phoaks! Max has a thread, titled in red print, about the radio program, so check that one and post him some questions, if he hasn't already answered them in it. I think we started our threads about the same time.

as for me, I think the first two songs he should use, so I am nominating them here, are

Rick Fielding's "Catspaw Rag" which he uses on his show and wrote for 'Spaw when he almost became our dearly departed this Spring, not that he isn't our "dearly" anyway!

And, Art Thieme's stream of conciousness, newly penned Mean Talking Blues Man (I think that's correct) in the Mean Talking Blues thread on Arlo.

I can't wait to hear this!

Oh I WISH I understood EST, BST, PST, BSE, ESB, OBE, KCB, PDQ, KGB, PMT.............does this mean that we can hear all these fun things when we in the UK should really be in bed ? Lordy, I hope not! Teller.

Oh, Teller, depending on how late you stay up. All you need remember is that the Mudcat, where Max and Bert actually will be broadcasting live from is in the Eastern time zone of the US. If the UK, as was mentioned above for Skarpi in Iceland is five hours later, then that would put the broadcast just about at midnight to one a.m. UK time, as near as I can tell. I think part of the confusion is in the fact that Max posted it as EST, eastern standard time, when we are actually, in the US, at least, in Daylight Savings Time, at the moment, which would then read, EDT, for where the Mudcat originates.

It really gets confusing in some places, such as Arizona, as they do not recognise DST and therefore, when the rest of the nation "springs forward", setting their clocks ahead one hour on the designated date in the Spring, they are all still an hour behind! Of course, when we all "fall back" setting our clocks back one hour on the set date, in the fall/autumn, then we are all in sync again! As far as I am concerned, it is all rather stupid and out-dated and I think they shoudl just leave it alone, but I don't run the country (darn!) so, there it is!

As to the other acronyms you posted, well, who knows?? In teh Rocky Mountains we are on MDT, Mountain Daylight Time, which is 2 hours earlier than where Mudcat MAX is.

Helen, or Alison, from Australia, once sent me a link to a wonderful world clock, with a map of the world and the ability to center the cursor over any location and see what time it was there. I've lost the link and it didn't get loaded into my system the way I thought it had. Maybe whichever of them it was, could put in a link for us all here?

I hope this didn't muddy the waters even more for you or anone else, although remember....Mud is thicker than water!*g*

Hi It was me,

I have a very easy to use world clock thingy but I don't know where it came from so I can't give a URL however I will email it to anyone who asks...... unless there is a way for Max to attach it to the site somehow.

Or do a web search for Iridium Global Time converter. At the moment it tells me that it is just after 3am in Baltimore and 8am in London. So doesn't that mean that Mudcat time is GMT-5hours??

World Time Zone says that it's 5 hours difference between Mudcat time (Eastern Daylight Savings) and GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), but it's only 4 hours difference between Mudcat time and Reykjavik, IS. 7PM (1900) here is 11PM (2300) in Reykjavik.

Also here is a time converter with a map of time zones: World Time Table

Not knowing who does the clocks forward and clock back thing, I'd say the easiest thing is to figure out your time zone's difference from GMT. (The map I posted the link to says the UK is on GMT, but I don't think that's true?) The show comes on at midnight, GMT.

Nice one Jeri,

The Iridium one is even easier becuase as you move the cursor it automatically tells you the diferent times... you don't have to add or subtract.

Jeri,

I just emailed the clock to you. Thanks to Alison for it; I found the old email she'd sent it to me in. You're welcome, Teller....sounds like you'll have a lot of fun with it. It is a really cool instrument!

How in the world does the world figure these things out without all of us Mudders????**BG**

O, please, Teller, I'm totally confused now. Perhaps if you tell me the ST (Chudleigh Standard Time), I can work it out - we're an hour ahead in France (I think) yes. it's 00.11 here now, so 11.11 in Chudleigh...

Jo Taylor,

If you send me your email addy, in a personal message, I will send you one of the clock thingies which Alison sent me, which I sent to Teller. It might help!**G** It does all get confusing, doesn't it?

According to the clock time convertor, Paris is one hour later than the UK, that is 6 hours later than when Max and Bert will do their live thing, so....if I'm figuring it right, it would be one a.m. your time, if you are in the Paris time zone.

Don't forget, everyone, Max said he would archive the show so you can listen to it at your leisure, too.
