Someone stuffed a crumpet up my trumpet - has anybody else heard this song? It could be an old Music-Hall number or perhaps more recent (I know it's not a folk song!)

I've heard the title, but not the song.

In my case, it was ca. 1955 when our small "dance combo" was playing in Hutchinson Kansas and a sweet little old lady stuffed an ice cream cone up Gary's trumpet. She had asked him quite nicely several times, and he didn't honor her request. He deserved it.

John, what did she ask him nicely? To consider her a crumpet? And was the ice cream still inside (for Cool Jazz)?

If the lady had had any sense of Music Hall rhymery, she would have stuffed the ice cream cone up a trombone, which still wouldn't have made such a nice effect.

GG -

It was at an "old people's dance" (Elks or Moose club, I think).

There were lots of people who knew how to dance, and not just "writhe spastically" (the popular form with younger crowds then) and the lady had asked Gary to "watch the dancers, and hold the note a bit if they dip or pause."

Gary didn't.

She did.

John

There's a crumpet up my trumpet
And a bass up my ass
But I shot my wad of love into you

There's a Crumpet in my Trumpet doesn't sound much like music hall, but might be a place to start.

Well eat it, before it gets stale, and smells like old trumpet!

I think it was called "Trumpet Involuntary" performed by Cardew "The Cad" Robinson

Perhaps she was confusing it with a cornet?

"Someone Stuffed a Crumpet in my Trumpet" is a short ditty composed by Cardew Robinson. I had a cassette tape of it some years ago but it's lost. Cardew (the Cad) Robinson was a 50's entertainer who also had a strip in one of the kids comics of that age.He also appeared in some of the "Carry On"! movies
As a distant relative I went to his funeral and it has to go down as one of the funniest events I have ever attended. The Water Rats know how to give a good send-off.

That is an excellent site for those interested in monologues or music hall songs. This particular song isn't there.

The song "Someone Stuffed a Crumpet up me Trumpet" was written by my grandfather, Frank Cardoe, who performed it regularly in the Birmingham area (UK) until his retirement in the mid 1960s.

The sheet music for the song was stolen from his dressing room one evening and evidently sold on to Cardew Robinson, who changed the lyrics and recorded it on his 1967 EMI album "Cream of Cardew"as "Trumpet Involuntary"

Frank Cardoe has never been credited for the song, but a privately-pressed recording was made on a 78 record which I have recently digitised.

If anyone has nay information about my grandfather, I would be delighted to hear from them as I am currently researching his life and work.
