BBC Wales did a magnificent documentary on the Tonypandy Riots, which occured on November 7, 1910 when coal owners of the Cambrian Combine staged a lockout and 12,000 miners struck.

The programme showed Sophie Evans, runner-up in Over The Rainbow, singing All The Nice Girls Love A Miner, and I would dearly love to track down the words again. The lyrics went:

In Tonypandy...

The song the BBC didn't show was one I collected from Wyn Jones:

I have failed to find any reference anywhere to ALL THE NICE GIRLS LOVE A MINER. From the title, I'd guess it's a parody of SHIP AHOY (ALL THE NICE GIRLS LOVE A SAILOR)—Words, A J Mills. Music, Bennett Scott (1909)—a music-hall song, the chorus of which is apparently familiar to almost all Brits and almost no Americans.
