Subject: Help Needed Identify A Song About Soup From: bobad Date: 10 Nov 10 - 10:11 PM I received a request from the daughter of friends who is looking for a song she claims to have heard at my house some time ago. All she can remember is that it was a male vocalist singing about a soup full of really gross things his mother made or maybe grandmother. I can't, for the life of me remember anything like that in my collection but if any of you come up with some suggestions I will know if I have it or not. |

Subject: RE: Help Needed Identify A Song About Soup From: bobad Date: 11 Nov 10 - 06:55 AM Chicken Lips and Lizard Hips sounds like a good candidate, I'll put the suggestion to her. I don't recall owning it - not a big Springsteen fan though I do like some of his stuff - but I may have had it on a cassette tape compilation of children's songs. I got rid of my cassettes long ago in a de-stuff-ication moment. Thanks for all your suggestions. |
Subject: RE: Help Needed Identify A Song About Soup From: Cool Beans Date: 11 Nov 10 - 09:17 AM "Mama's Soup Surprise" and "Chicken Lips..." are the same song. Bruce Springsteen sings it on a compilation called "For Our Children," a CD in the late 80s or early 90s that was a fundraiser for a children's AIDS charity. Another gem on the CD is Bob Dylan singing "This Old Man" (before he was an old man himself). |
Subject: RE: Help Needed Identify A Song About Soup From: bobad Date: 11 Nov 10 - 11:33 AM Right on Cool Beans, I did have "For Our Children" on cassette, I remember now - that's got to be it. |
Subject: RE: Help Needed Identify A Song About Soup From: Gurney Date: 11 Nov 10 - 02:09 PM It isn't the one you are looking for, but 'Broken-Hearted Lover's Stew' by Benny Hill is funny in a bitter way. |
Subject: RE: Help Needed Identify A Song About Soup From: ClaireBear Date: 11 Nov 10 - 02:15 PM While we're on the subject, someone should mention Alan Sherman's soul- (and gut-) stirring "Strangers in My Soup." |
Subject: RE: Help Needed Identify A Song About Soup From: Nigel Parsons Date: 12 Nov 10 - 08:00 AM There was also a Scout 'Yell' Soup, soup, soup, soup, Soup, soup, soup, soup, Vegetable soup, vegetable soup Bangers and mash, bangers and mash Bangers and mash, bangers and mash Ice cream! It takes very little imagination to build this up, using suitable pacing & the rhythm of the words themselves to make this into a good impression of a steam engine starting up, moving off, accellerating & finally blowing its whistle. Cheers Nigel |

Subject: RE: Help Needed Identify A Song About Soup From: JohnInKansas Date: 13 Nov 10 - 01:52 AM I misread the title and immediately thought of "Grandma's Lye Soap." By the time I got the thread open I had decided that wasn't a possibility, but reading the actual request it's just remotely possible that a vague request from a kid might have been inspired by that one. Or if the kid just wants gross and disgusting maybe it would be an adequate substitute. (Depending, of course on the kid, and on how much "gross and disgusting" you want yours exposed to.) John |
Subject: RE: Help Identify Song About Mrs Murphy chowder From: GUEST,guest Date: 15 Mar 15 - 07:17 PM something like: Who threw the overalls in Mrs. Murphy's chowder.. |
Subject: RE: Help Needed Identify A Song About Soup From: Stevebury Date: 16 Mar 15 - 01:45 PM How about "Mrs. Murphy's Chowder"? (Not "Overalls.") There's a version (words and tune) on DT. Not about a mother or grandmother specifically, but ingredients include plenty of "really gross things." |
